Noel's just announced on This Morning that it's two weeks of LIVE shows!

I expected Second Chance, but knew live shows were a possibility as this was the first remotely plausible window for them.

I like this. I really do. I've often wondered about what's ending up on the cutting-room floor in terms of what Noel says, what the players say, etc etc.

For these upcoming games, none of that will apply.

What will be fascinating is the clock management, and the players' decisions. I'm sure there'll be a "shot clock" on the decisions, which has to date only been implemented in an ad hoc and amusing manner for a couple of indecisive players.

Noel also mentioned that the people who will be playing the live shows currently have no idea that they will be playing!

I wonder if the Live Show players will all be on the wings and return to their spots to open boxes, or if the players who are currently shooting their games will just stick around for 12 extra shows?

I heard Noel say this too. Sounds like a great idea. Though they would need to gee some players on to make a choice to keep to the schedule as there can be a lot of procrastination between choosing boxes and as he said if its players plucked from the street (though presumably they have applied at some point) then they wont have the build up on the wings. Live would make for an interesting dynamic for sure not least because of some of the random and occasional coloured language that slips from the players in a high stress situation. Even some of Noel's more barbed comments could slip out, though as he's the professional I would imagine he would be able to keep a tight reign on them.

He certainly wears his beard different when he's not filming deal :ponder:

I've just uploaded a video of Noel's interview to Youtube, you can find the video here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm-3w9Zcoow

Noel talks about his Christmas presents show in the first segment of the video, but then goes on to announce the LIVE DoND shows.

2 weeks? Why 2 weeks I say? What an odd length of time for sucha thing! :-D

The one true benefit of this is that there can be no clock watching. So often I've correctly predicted the outcome based on the time.

Fascinating!

Did he give any indication of when these live shows would start?

Well they would have to be before Halloween as otherwise those shows will be 2 weeks early.

Exciting news! :D This is quite ambitious for the show, and I'm fascinated to see how it is going to work. I suspect the player intros will be fairly quick, and it's a greater effort to get music cues right. Some decisions naturally take longer than others - in the studio, they can take 10 minutes or more to decide, clearly that cannot be the case here. All sorts of logistical questions!

I wonder if they will shoot the current recording line up around the live shows, given that I think they still would want to use the studio for 3 shows in the day - unless they were planning rehearsals which seems unlikely! I would consider going to see a live show if a 'normal' show was also being filmed in the day, but it's too far to go for just one show (and one hour! ). I guess we'll hear some dates later in the week...

Normal taping starts late September/early October, yes? I reckon it must be the two weeks before regular filming...

What will be interesting to me is how they hurry the decisions - and how the players make those hurried decisions. Some players might end up impulsively No Dealing when they'd be gone if they had more time to think, but the opposite might also be true...

I think I'm OK to reveal stuff (as the info was given to me by the audience ticket team).

All I know is that the live shows will start on Monday 10th October and I'm guessing they will be in the usual 4pm slot (or if not - somewhere near that).

Noel said in his This Morning interview that the shows will still be on at 4pm and in the normal 60-minute timeslot.

All of this is very intriguing and raises several questions, including how things like the music/graphics will be timed correctly, how they'll select the players in the first place, and of course the big question - how they'll deal with the timings of the decisions over the offers. I'm wondering if the show might be broadcast on a 60-second delay to enable them to put the sound and graphics in correctly, as I some pre-watershed shows do this to ensure that any swearing can be bleeped out.

Now we know what's going on, it's quite amusing looking back at this thread and reading all the wild speculation  - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22282

I'm in America for a large part of next month so will be relying on my digibox to record the shows so I can watch them when I get back. It won't be the same as watching them live, but it'll have to do!

By the way, here are a couple of ancient topics from the forum discussing the possibility of live shows:

This one - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3082 - is from July 2006 and was actually started by yours truly.

Then there's this one from January 2008 - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12157 - which features me saying "A set of live shows would be nice, but would never work in reality". I hope that's not a bad omen.

And finally there's this one from June 2008 - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14461

I wonder if they will raid the old Christmas Star files for contestants. I can't see them picking random people in the street as Noel suggested in the studio so I reckon it might be that.

Of course the other very small possibility is they pick people out the audience to play (not that I think that's at all likely)
