In series 1 Vaughan said that the first round doesn't matter.
We have seen horrible first rounds that result in a good amount of money (Gaz, Buzz) and good opening rounds that result in tiny sums of money (Ann, Janet, Tan, Raj).

I took out the £250,000 in the first round - of course Round One matters - they all do.

And I gave Noel a joke which he used during Vaughans game

The reason why Vauaghan thinks the first round doesnt matter is that he has never bought one!
( You should have see the look he gave me.... Vaughan played on the night that we all broke up for the Christmas week and Jessica and I ended up back in his room drinking the most amazing white wine.... I still wince every time I think of my head the nex day....)

Alan's first round was so painful to watch
He was a great guy around the hotel and such a laugh!

The first round certainly matters, but it isn't necessarily decisive.

If you take out the top five you could still win £20,000. If you take out the bottom five you could still leave with £10!

It does matter, whether it moulds the rest of the game, or whether it is there purely for entertainment value. As we saw recently, it also enables the banker to have fun - e.g. he offered a "swap the box" for the first "offer".

And it certainly does have an influence on the rest of the game - if several reds are taken out, for example, then it means there are fewer "safety nets" (as Noel calls them) for the latter stages of the game.

It is also not necessarily the case that a bad first round means a bad result - look at Gaz's game - he had a terrible first round if I remember correctly, and went on to win the £100,000!

Having had loads of World Cup jokes and emails at work here in Scotland inclluding the one about it being the law that all men with 3" willies now have to wear a small badge with a red cross on a white background to warn women not to allow them to sleep with them etc etc

I think the first round matters because every now and again it eliminates
the Scots from the World Cup...............

Rant over - but it does feel good to get that off my chest!

GEORDIE
PS I would never wear anything red and white on principle. Too Mackem for my tastes.......

Round 1 is a definate round. It is a idea of what the board could look like in future rounds. And it also can help a lot guess towards the sum of money the banker would offer

It's the value of the boxes that matters and more so, the players response to each as the value is revealed. That helps shape the offer. Players who visibly deflate are generally offered relatively low amounts.

Every round is important, plus you have to get on the right side of the banker! :)
