Have all you DOND stats fans out there seen this? The latest version is much improved and has details of every game, box stats, position stats etc.

It's produced by Dave Woollin (the first Dave to appear on the show), he runs the contestants' website http://www.screwthebanker.com - the stats section is publicly accessible and you can download the spreadsheet, but don't try and register for the forums/pictures unless you are a contestant!

They're great, and partly what I base my box stats on though I try to have some other box stats too. There are a couple of mistakes on that spreadsheet though.

You should email him with any you find, I'm sure he would want it to be as correct as possible!

I've spotted one error already. It says that in Tom's game, box 16 had the £250,000 when it was box 11.

I'm intrigued as I look at some of the stats in the spreadsheet. For example, only 22 of the 180 players listed have won less than £1,000, of which 17 won £20 or less.

And 34 players have won more than the average of £25,712, slightly below the average of 41 players if they all continued to the end and opened their box each time. The median of the players' wins is £12,950, just over half the average.

This is slightly influenced by the number of blues to reds that players have had in their box, 97 to 83, and the top 5 reds have appeared 20% less than normally expected.

The players have won nearly £3m altogether, with an average win of £16,516 per player. Assuming players appear on average 22 times on the show, their 'appearance fee' for one show on average is £751, not bad for a few hours work!

I could play around with the stats for ages with what's here. Thank you Power5 for posting this, I would have missed it otherwise, and Dave, for the time and effort you've put in making this very nice spreadsheet.

With Frans win yesterday the total contestants winnings has now gone over the £3m mark to £3,000,607.14.

But if all the contestants had just played their games all the way through to the end and just taken their boxes their total winnings would have been £4,089,746.27. (That figure is based on the original players boxes and not making any swaps offered at the end)

Obviously it wouldn't have provided us with all the drama and suspense that we have had with the various games, but overall it would have given the contestants a higher win over the game.

And would also have produced train wrecks more often than not.

This is the thing about this show - the massively top-heavy distribution of prizes in every single version means it's in the Banker's long-term interest to get players to Deal because they will settle for less than the mean... something our Banker really, really doesn't seem to get.

In his immediate financial interest, yes. From the point of view of making good TV, and hence Endemol's long-term financial interest, probably not.

The shows people seem to remember most vividly are those where the contestant has gone all the way to the end, for better or worse:

e.g. Nick, Trevor, Germaine, Kirsty, Fadil, Morris, Gaz, and so on

More "sensible" banker behaviour would have seen most of these win an intermediate amount and these games (and thus the show as a whole) wouldn't be such a hit.
