It's a scenario we've seen many, many times over the past four years, where a contestant has one huge sum of money remaining on the board, but everything else consist of either blues or honorary blues (1k, 3k and 5k). These boards often make for more exciting shows, and can lead to some very difficult decisions for the player. If the player chooses to play on, they have a 60% chance of taking out the power 5 amount in question, at which point they're doomed to winning a low amount. However, if they achieve the 40% chance of keeping it in the game, the offer almost always increases dramatically. Because of the high risk of winning a blue (and obviously everyone wants to win something of value), we've seen people deal statistically poor offers on one-box games (recent examples include George and Lyn), even if beforehand they turned down much bigger sums of money.

So what would be the lowest amounts you'd take at 5-box with one-box games of each power 5 amount? When it comes to 4-figure offers, the blues you have does matter to some extent, so in all four scenarios assume that the four blues are £1, £10, £250 and £500. Here's the lowest offers I'd deal in each one-box game:

35k - £4,000

50k - £5,000

75k - £6,500

100k - £7,500

250k - £12,000

This is assuming that there's no banker guarantee of what the two-box offer might be. Since guarantees at 2-box are often very high, this would push up the offer needed for me to deal somewhat. For example, if I was promised £18,000 on blue/50k, I'd want £6,000 to deal rather than £5,000.

It'll be interesting to see you lot answer for this...

35k - £4,000

50k - £5,000

75k - £6,000

100k - £7,500

250k - £12,000

So my thresholds are virtually identical to yours...

Right. Let's see.

I'd be looking ahead to the two-box offer, rather than the box, and I'd be trying to guess what that'd be. These numbers are based on fairly generous two-box assumptions in light of current trends.

£35k - £4,000
£50k - £5,000
£75k - £6,500
£100k - £8,000
£250k - £15,000

Just to add another dimension to it; what about if there was also a £20k backup (with 3 blues, obviously)?

20k & 35k - £5,500

20k & 50k - £7,000

20k & 75k - £8,000

20k & 100k - £9,000

20k & 250k - £14,500

I probably don't place enough importance on the presence of the £20k, simply because it's still a vulnerable 3 blues / 2 reds split and I'd be worried of a game crash!!

I'll assume here that it's the £500 that's been replaced, for consistency's sake (not that it matters that much):

20k/35k, aka The H2005 Finish: £5,500
20k/50k: £7,000
20k/75k: £8,500
20k/100k: £10,500
20k/250k: £18,000

£35k/4 blues - £4,000
£50k/4 blues - £5,000
£75k/4 blues - £7,000
£100k/4 blues - £8,000
£250k/4 blues - £13,000

(They're just guesses, a lot would depend on how I got to that point and what I'd turned down earlier)

My mistake, thought it said 2-box

35k - £7,000

50k - £10,000

75k - £15,000

100k - £20,000

250k - £50,000 (You would have to offer me mega money to get me out here, A chance of changing mine/my families life forever, I wouldn't let that opportunity fly past! But if I had a reasonable head on £21,500)

They're on about 5-boxes, not 2-boxes...but that sounds right for me too with those 2-boxes!

I'll post mine later...

Hehe! Here's mine...

£35,000 - £5,000
£50,000 - £6,000
£75,000 - £9,000
£100,000 - £12,000
£250,000 - £18,000

The £35,000 one does sound high, I know...but it seems far less to go for than £50,000 if that makes sense

If there's a 20k back-up, here's what my get-out fees would be.

20k/35k - £5,500
20k/50k - £7,000
20k/75k - £8,500
20k/100k - £10,000
20k/250k - £15,000

20k would be particularly significant in my case because roughly the target I'd be aiming for if I went on the show. I realise that 20k targetists are incredibly cliché, but it would help out an awful lot with future university fees and such. That said, I generally try to make my decisions based on how good it is compared to the board, but once the offers start rising above 25k or so, I'd find it very, very hard to turn it down unless it was an amazing board.
