Don't know if anyone else saw this, but Charlie Brooker had a segment on his show tonight about DOND. Wondering how a show based on pure skill has become so successful around the world. Followed by some brief clips from the various DOND's around the world, including the US one (and the George Bush clip), and the Nigerian version with John Fashanu and how our version relies on the more emotional aspect. It was basically just Charlie & Co taking the pee out of the show for a few minutes.

I was going to upload the segment tonight, but for some reason the recording didn't work. But the show is/will be available on 4OD and i'll upload the clip tomorrow when I catch the repeat.

Just a rehash of the usual "DOND is just a random picking game". Perhaps if he'd have watched some of the Hall of Fame shows, it would prove how entertaining DOND is. Only thing I agreed with was his criticism at the end of contestants who cry for no reason.

Exactly... the game is essentially a random picking game - even Noel has joked in the past that the contestants are supposed to be there to "open boxes". But of course there's much more to it than that, in the form of the banker's offers, the personalities of the players, the entertainment provided by Noel, the interaction between the contestants and Noel, etc.

I think people who make sweeping negative statements about DoND are generally the ones who don't like Noel much - and don't like the fact that he's made an extremely successful televisual comeback and has done very well for himself.

I agree H, also they don't like how good he looks at 60 and has married a lovely younger lady

I saw the show yeah and I thought he was very negative on a whole about DOND. But then again, he's negative and grumpy about everything. I enjoy it, and I bet Charlie secretly does too. So there

I don't understand why Charlie goes with the lazy attack on the show. Surely he can construct an argument that a show around abstract financial risk-taking is a televisual anachronism in a post-crunch environment? (Not saying he'd be right, although there's a case for it; just saying it's the kind of critique I know Charlie is capable of constructing.)

Some fantastic gags in the full clip though, especially after the Nigerian clip.
