Was watching a couple of clips of the Australian version of deal or no deal and this one caught my eye:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtp0onU0Dok

On a $75,000/$100,000 finish the banker offered $89,000!!

What on earth. But the fact that she got offered more than the average isn't the worst part: she then no dealt it! Absolute madness.

And the simple fact of the matter here is: anyone who would no deal this offer does not like money.

Hah!

Or just doesn't even care because they think 'I can't lose, might as well just win!'

Seen this clip before. It is entirely in common with typical behaviour on this sort of finish, and on many versions it is common to see above-mean offers made and rejected on trainwreck finishes too.

Anyone who declines the offer is clearly for the glory and not for the money.

It is a vvery good offer but I would still No Deal! You can't lose and winning 6 figures would be great!

But you can lose, no you DO lose.

Your expected value in that situation is £87,500. By no dealing £89,000 you are essentially giving away £1,500. Ok, given you're getting at least £75,000 it's not a massive amount, but £1,500 is £1,500, and this is clearly a negative expectation gamble.

Actually, I agree with NoelsFan.

I hate to sound like everyone's favourite banned Wilsonist, but that's a win-win finish; I'd be MORE than happy with $75,000 - so even if he offered $99,000, I'd still turn it down, for the simple reason I'd be perfectly happy with $75,000

Seconded.

Although if it was 99k, I might have given it a thought.

Besides, for me, it's not just about the money, but about the experience. Even If you don't go away with the $100,000/$89,000, you still win a nice amount of money more than zero. It may not be as good as $100,000, but it's still a nice amount of money to part away with. So I'm with NoelsFan, Divvy and Sir Wilson.

Everyone has an opinion. Now now, don't get so moody just because she gives away $1,500. It's not like the $75,000 is actually just... say... $25. :smt018

Good.

I could understand dealing on £70,000 on 35k/100k because it is quite a big difference. But when a massive £75,000 is gurranteed I would go on. Maybe 95k I might deal but it is such a powerful postion that most would go on!
