Noel Edmonds is on BBC ONE's The ONE Show tonight - apparently saying why "being nice isn't naff" (co-presenter Christine Blakeley described him as The Beard of British Broadcasting  ).

I wonder if he's going to be using that motto to justify the banker's handouts of late?

Anyway it's on at 7pm tonight, although it always starts at about 6:57, so it's best to tune in at 6:55 if you want to catch it...

I wonder if mike will record it and upload it, then he can get a BBC C&D to go with his Endemol ones. :P

Maybe Noel can explain what's wrong with the show :eyes:

And offers designed to make sure nobody ever deals except for the hell of it at the end *sigh*

I wonder if Noel's written a new "positivity" book? Maybe he's releasing it now so the contestants who are recording their shows later this year can read it and will be encouraged to gamble? :P

Oh yeah could be. He's also hosting a new Sky One show - the pilot episode of which is going out later this month on Sky One. Seems odd that he'd advertise a Sky One show on the BBC though, but stranger things have happened.

He spoke about his Sky show this Sunday at 7pm on Sky One (he kept mentioning the time and channel ) which is called Noel's HQ... and is about "making Britain's society better"... they also spoke about his beard and embarrassed him by showing the pic of him without a beard.

He was his usual sarcastic self and he seemed in good health... ready to start filming again next month no doubt. I'm surprised he's not shaking in his boots wondering what games and contestants he'll be faced with when they start filming again!

Just finished watching this myself and as H said Noel was there plugging his show quite a bit. He also talked about giving scratchcards out to people :ponder: and how he annoyed some motorist in a dust cart. Plus there was a few shots of Noel from his younger days.

Now I have some work to do ;)

As we're talking about Noel's new show here's an interview with Noel Edmonds by Sky1 chatting about general acts of kindness and of course his new show.

Sky1: Do people have less time for kindness today?
Noel: I don't actually think that there is a shortness of kindness in today's society. I think that most people are fundamentally kind...people lack the confidence to show their kindness or...to share their kindness.

Can a little thank you REALLY go a long way?
Saying thank you to people makes you feel good and it makes them feel good and I think then there is a viral goodness about it. We all like to be valued and if you get a simple thank you for a simple deed, it makes you more inclined to do something for somebody else. So I'd like to see a few more thank yous around the place.

Where do you think Britian's social problems stem from?
I think one of the reasons why we've so many problems at the moment is we've lost the art of communication. And it's ironic because there are so many different ways to communicate. You can text, you can email, there's the internet, I've even made a phone call from Antartica...too many misunderstandings come about because we’re just not communicating our feelings and I think that the art of communication should be right there on the national syllabus. Kids need to be encouraged in the art of communication...

What do hope Noel's HQ inspires viewers to do?
I'm really hoping that NHQ will energize people, inspire them, that they'll look at the show and think, right, yeah I am gonna do something. They'll see examples that we give and individuals and organizations that are committing themselves to make a big difference and they'll want to be part of that.

Give us a taste of what we are going to see in Noel's HQ?
I'm clearly not going to reveal too much about the content of the show, but I can guarantee one thing: it will be a rollercoaster of emotions. There'll be plenty of laughs, but I can guarantee some tears as well.

So, what can we all start doing right now to put a smile on Britain's face?
Random acts of kindness are gathering momentum. I do hear of people in the queue at the coffee shop do pay for the person in front and it's interesting to see whether that carries on down the line.

Can you share a random act of kindness shown to you recently?
A couple of weeks ago I bumped into a real good Samaritan. I'd done an incredibly dumb thing. I arrived at the airport and I left my phone in the car that had taken me there. I didn't know what to do. There wasn't a pay phone. I went to the information desk and the girl wouldn't allow me to use the phone to call the car, standing there was a Dutchman who said use my phone. I made the call and got my phone back. But there was something very interesting, he was actually late for his flight and he still lent me the phone. He wouldn't accept any money from me and he said well you would've done the same for me and walked off. I found myself thinking, I hope I would've done and in the future I will.

What would you say to the cynics out there?
I think the single most important message from this show is, if you are not part of the solution, you undoubtedly are the problem.

In a nutshell what lasting affect do you hope Noel's HQ has?
I really hope that NHQ is going to trigger a new age of people power.

This must be the source of the handouts now. Noel's decided the harsh reality of blue wins (especially with the gambling he so advocated last year) produces too much of a sad show, or something, so the Banker throws in 'random acts of kindness'.

So, so very not the point.

I wonder if it is a bit of a coincidence that the banker handouts would've been recorded at a time when Noel was probably preparing for this show earlier in the year? I don't think Noel would have an active say in it but it does make you wonder.

I find it ironic that he seems to be the "king" of positive thinking and being kind and so on. Yet in early 2007, he almost bullied people who dealt too soon and even reduced them to tears... is that a kind act?! :? I suppose he'd say "yes" because it'd make future people gamble more and therefore have the possibility of winning life-changing sums of money.

He's trying to do good (which is good in itself) but I don't think he alone can do it really, even if he ends up with a band of supporters. He said he doesn't trust politicians and doesn't think they'll do anything about society in general (which is probably correct) but will Noel trigger some sort of national reaction to the state of society?

I think people are naturally suspicious of people being "extra kind" though, and they always have been. It's the old thing of "there's no such thing as a free lunch". Like they said on The ONE Show, the bloke who offered to wash people's cars for free probably kept getting turned down because they thought he was a criminal who would nick their car or something worse. But who can blame them when we see on the news almost every day how some awful crime has been committed somewhere in the country? As for helping out at the scene of a crime or something (e.g. a fight in the street) some people who have tried to help out in incidents have ended up as suspects in a crime, instantly putting people off helping out in such situations.

I agree with Noel that a few more "please"s and "thank you"s would be nice and that doing simple things to help out others (simple things such as returning lost property rather than keeping it for yourself or holding doors open for people etc) is a thing which should be encouraged. But offering to pay for people's shopping, or wash their car, or dishing out free scratchcards is something that people will be suspicious about... I think it's just human nature and nothing will change that.

That, and the fact that Thatcherism has left too much of a legacy for support like that to come through. Especially now in a recession where every penny counts (funnily enough, the reason the Banker's had to resort to stupidly low offers to make people No Deal!).

The common thread between his 'kindness' and his Wakeyism; he has so much money he doesn't really understand what it's like for the average person.

It sounds great what Noel is trying to do and has made me respect him more, but i don't think one TV programme will be able to change everyones views. There is a definate problem in britain with some peoples attitudes and social problems and lack of respect, almost to the point where i want to emigrate.
