I do notice that quite often the French and Italian versions of the game, the game often goes down to the last two boxes, with a fairly rare deal at around 6, 5 or 4 boxes left. A deal at 8 boxes is extremely rare in those versions, since quite often the offer at that point would be a swap.

In this UK version, there are quite often deals at 8-box and 5-box, which asks the question if players here are more risk-averse than either the French, Italian (or even the Dutch, American or Aussie versions).

The players here are mainly idiots who couldn't read "My first picture book", never mind the board in a game of Deal Or No Deal. They p*ss about with derisory offers like they're amazing and then deal the first sign of £10,000 to £20,000. If anything, players in the UK are simply greedier and more money grabbing than players in other countries and they certainly aren't there to play the game to its fullest.

Well make sure you watch after the summer break, there are some very brave players who are quite prepared to take the banker on.

They'll probably end up with blues or a 4-figure red if the standard between mid-May and Mid-July is anything to go by.

It's only recently that British contestants have been consistently 'very cautious' - long-term I'd say they're fairly moderate relative to other versios and there's been sustained periods where they've reached Franco-Italian levels of throwing caution to the wind.

The most cautious contestants in versions I've seen enough of to judge are probably the Dutch, which primarily is a by-product of their €5m board (though there's relative caution in their daily version too). The French and Italians were the least risk-averse (I use the past tense as I don't know if the shows are going still), with the Americans and Aussies somewhere in between and probably about where most people here would like the Brits to be.

The French version was canceled not long after they Americanized the board and set. Specifically, they made the maximum prize €1 million. Reds became Golds, the Joker and the obligatory joke prizes were removed, and they made it 24 boxes, with the two new ones representing an overseas department and an ex-pat.

The general "Americaness" of that set pretty much doomed it, as it only lasted three months.

The Italian version will have a new host beginning September. Flavio Insinna's last episode was June 6. So far the Italians have resisted the temptation to go American.

As for the Dutch being the most cautious, I tend to agree a bit, purely because an all or nothing board involving €5 million and peanuts has volatility that is off the charts and would potentially produce heartbreak much worse than 1p Trevor's heartbreak. The American version has had such things happen before (with only a $1,000,000 maximum prize), especially very late in the game when it's no dealt, and reveals the mega money right after that.

I did forget about the Filipino version, but quite often, I think that the Filipinos are actually less-averse and tend to gamble more often, even on all or peanuts situations, and their board similar to the USA version with the exception of a much weaker currency, with the big exception being at the final two cases.

Precise reason why I stopped watching. Deal or No Deal is now Deal at first £10k+ offer or Deal at 8-box and run.

I agree, take Fadil's game for example. There to play the game, whatever the outcome. And there were many many more before and after, but now...there just aren't anymore. Shame, but that's the way it goes.

Oh yes the Filipino players - I cannot honestly remember seeing anyone Deal on that show!!
