I was thinking the other day about some of the systems players have used during their games to pick numbers - most of which have proved unsuccessful, but some occasionally work!

We had 1p member Sally who picked numbers according to how boat numbers finished in a race, Dave (of http://www.screwthebanker.com) simply picked numbers in ascending order, but missed out 9, which contained the £250,000! One player, whose name I forget, firstly picked all the men then all the women, and Thanh (I think) picked boxes based on 'clusters' of colours on the wings. I think I'd have a system, so I definitely knew where I would have gone/ am going next, but other than that it doesn't serve any advantage, of course.

Can anyone remember any other legendary and bizarre systems?

I cant remember who it was but there was a bloke who gave each amount a number from 1-22 (obviously), I cant remember how he chose his first number but after he revealed the amount he used it choose the next box and so on and so on.

I cant really remember it but it was a genius of a system!

I loved Martin's system (the first Martin), where he picked all the boxes in blocks of three having picked all the gaps out first. It made quite a rubbish game rather amusing! :)

Yeah I remember that one. So For Example if the £750 box was revealed the next box number he would choose would be Box 11. If It was 10p the next box Number would be Box Number 2 etc.

Yup, Frank, but the system was always going to go wrong at some point. Not in the game though as he picked up an OPW for a life-changing sum of money (I can't remember exactly what it was as it was some crazy amount, multiple of £2,007 as it was on January 1 2007!).

Yup, Thanh was the colour-cluster player. Geordie went across the wings (if he'd gone the other way, his final five would have been the quarter-million and the bottom four blues, and the £250k would have gone next box!). And besides his devil-may-care Wakeyist attitude and its outcome, Dennis's game had something else to be remembered for - his system based on player height. Which went disastrously wrong at the end, I recall, as he alternated between tallest and shortest!

£36,126 if my memory serves me correctly.

There have been some very whacky systems... one which Noel joked about recently was where the players seemed to be picking the pregnant players at important stages of the game (as there were about 2 pregnant ladies on the wings at the same time or something like that). Clive's system was very good (or lack of) where he just said he didn't care as it was all random, which made a nice refreshing change from all the "dead relative birthday number boxes" stuff...

Eunice was also notable for her lack of a system - didn't she just walk around and select the boxes she was nearest to at any given point?! Also some players have done it based on what colour clothes the players have worn. An older man from quite a while ago had a massive system, all drawn up based on who had what whilst he was there... and then he ripped it up when his game started to fall apart... who was that? I can't remember. There have also been other systems based on things like Chinese takeaway menus, and more recently another older bloke who did it based on which boxes most frequently have Power 5 amounts, and had a large system as a result of that... again the names escape me.

Russell was the one who ripped his up, but I can't remember the name of the more recent one.

I think it was Roy (30/06) actually.

EDIT: Yes it was. Also, Ellie had a golf based system, recent Mikey used a system based on how long each player had been there, and Ruth had a rather strange number based system too...

Yup, £36,126. That's the one.

I remember the Chinese takeaway system... it led to a destructive opening round. Guess the player needed a fortune cookie instead :)

Someone had a system where they used the colours that the players were wearing, and if they suited them or not. I can't remember who it was, but I thought £75,000 Lynne, but I could be wrong...

Ellie's system was incredibly funny - she kept forgetting what was next so her friend in the audience had to keep chipping in! :P

Talking of £75k Lynne, she had a very strange system (I think she revealed this in the chatroom after her show was aired) where she picked boxes where she thought the lights in front of them were extra bright as she thought it was a sign. Apparently during the recording she asked Noel if the lights varied in intensity, and no-one else could see the variations apart from her... :ponder:

Oh, it must have been someone else who did the whole which colours suit which person then! Also, someone else picked off people they didn't really like to start with, and left their best friends to the end...

Didn't Nudist Di work based on colours...after eliminating most of the odd numbers? :)

didnt jonny from earlier this year, have a system where he thought that a blue and a red wouldnt be next to each other? which i think went quite wrong then picked up again if i can remember rightly  my memory is atrocious for one so young haha i dont think it matters what system you use, we didnt have one but we should have kept a special number (NOT A SPOILER GUYS IM NOT MENTIONING THE NUMBER OR ANYTHING) :-D not many people have systems i dont think these days because i dont think it works!!!!! and even if they have one i dont seem to have seen many people revealing them my thoughts are you take a chance by opening any box on there it literally could have anything in it (except a rabbit of course) xxxxx

I think Rossano was the first to use that system.
