If they got their timings right and timed it so they did a live show when they were due to record some more (e.g. they could do a live show in December as they've recorded up to December and have stopped recording now) then it could in theory work. They would of course have to start recording shows again immediately after.

On the other hand, I don't think DOND is a format that would work well being live, as the contestants vary the time they take to make decisions at the offers, meaning some shows take an hour to record, some take three. The amount of banter also makes a difference.

So unless there was a time limit on deciding what to do for each offer, then I doubt it'd work. It'd be great to see a live edition but I'd imagine they'd have to put it on at 9pm for an hour (or more) to avoid getting into trouble if someone swears or there's some risque banter.

It would be difficult, but I think it could be done. I would like to see them try it.

It would have to be some sort of one-off special, in a similar vein to last years Christmas shows, perhaps with celebs or something. I dont think Joan Rivers would be invited though.

No, it wouldn't work. Contestants sometimes spend aaaaaages making decisions, and they would be hurried into doing it in a certain amount of time for the sake of being live. The three shows I saw recorded all lasted about two hours in filming - it would be hard to cut it down to 45 flat minutes.

Not to mention the fact that all the music is added in later, and it's deathly silent in the student apart from the applause and the chat.

I would like to see a live show, but Endemol have enough trouble putting together a decent edit for the pre-recorded shows. Never mind trying to control a live episode.

It'd be nice to see it done though as a one-off special or something (maybe the 1000 episode?) and as long as the player didn't take too long on choosing boxes and agonising over the offers then i'm sure they could easily fit the show in to an hour at least. They might have to keep the banter to a minimum and the Banker would have to be on his best behaviour to tone down his risque banter too.

I'm guessing though that they'd make the offers really low though just to try and force the player to go on so they don't takes ages deciding on what to do.

Though just imagine that someone won the £250,000 on a live show. Everyone would say it was a fix, if it happened.

My thoughts exactly! I don't think it could be done, mostly due to time constraints. Also, it's very likely that someone would "do a Joan Rivers." There isn't any bleeper machines for live TV!

I don't think the logistics of the show allow for it to be live. Music cues would be out of sync, there would often be periods of silence, banter that goes on too long and/or isn't particularly interesting. Being in the studio, you clearly soak up the atmosphere more and the pauses crank up the tension, but it would come across as dull on the television. You can't really rush someone into making a potentially life-changing decision, and I don't think it would make good T.V. if you did.

Even if you straddled games across a whole week, the danger is that someone takes up 2+ shows and whatever tension was there is lost. Overall, not a good idea.

Out of the question to much involved recording the show.Far more to it than meets the eye.

How long does it actually take to film one episode?

I read a while back that it takes over 2 hours to record an episode.

I also read somewhere that Thanh's episode took about 45 minutes to film and they had trouble actually finding stuff to keep in the edit. Someone humorous like Pat M or Clive can have shows that last 2 and a half hours though. The same applies to people who take aaaaages to make decisions such as recent Jo (think it was her).
