PostPosted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 4:59 pm    Author: max-imum    Post subject: My winnings to charity

Warnings: 0
Hey Everyone,

Firstly, let me introduce myself.

I'm Max, 23 from Kent (more detailed post on the introductions page!) . I have got the go ahead to appear on the show, but am not sure when, although by the sounds of things it is now likely to be around October time.

The way I live, it's not a religion, but my adapted lifestyle, means I do not take any more than I need of anything, and one thing this involved is money. I am happy to appear on the show for its entertainment value, but would personally feel greedy taking a large sum of money for myself, which i know could go to better use.

If i win any more than £1000, I have decided I will donate it to Charity, it is how I feel my winnings should be used.

Not really sure what the point of this post is, but how does this idea go down amoungst everyone? and which charities do people think the money should go to?

Any thoughts welcomed, via here or pm.

Max

hey max, that's a very thoughtful thing to do...you should choose a charity that is personal to you, and that is important to you. if you win a truly significant amount, then split between charities.

good luck :D

Thats a lovely and admirable idea ! Whichever charity you decide to donate to will be lucky to recieve whatever you give them.

For having these as your principles you are a very unusual and strong young man.

I have always supported heart disease and cancer charities, since I have lost family members with both these diseases, but after the birth of my gorgeous grandaughter on June 23rd (2 weeks ago) I would support any Special Care Baby Units, because little Anya's life hung in the balance for 48 hours, and but for the skill and care of the SCBU staff, I wouldn't have had her to love and cuddle.

She was born with Group B Streptococcal infection (Group B Strep, or GBS) which can be a very fatal infection, and she had to have intravenous antibiotics for five days, and thankfully she is now very fit and well, and at home where her big brother is trying to love her to death!! so from now on any spare cash I can donate will be to the Barnsley hospitals SCBU.

Great gesture, Max, I'd also love to see the £250K go to someone like you, mate. Here's a link to some pics of the two of them,

who wouldn't want to put money into something that saved the life of such a precious little baby? [/url]

I'd have a long think about what information you give to the banker when you do get in the chair. I am not sure whether if you let him know beforehand that the money would be going to charity is a good thing.

One player, Gabrielle, let on that the money was going to charity when she won £1,000 and the banker doubled it to £2,000. I'm not saying he will do this again but if he is in a good mood then if you don't win a huge amount of money, Endemol may be generous enough to increase the offer.

I am sure other members will have some opinions on this.

Thank you all for your kind words, and thanks to everyone who is already giving me ideas, i will of course take all of your suggestions into concideration.

I don't need a big fast car, I have a car, its not big and fast, but it does the job. I don't need a big house, I have a house, big enough for 1, and don't need the extra space.

Lots of people out there need things, and im more than willing to support a good cause. I'd like to see more contestants doing this.

Me too Max, some people take the saying 'Charity begins at home' too seriously, when there are so many people suffering for want of contributions into research or treatment.

OH well done Geordie    It could have been worse, it could have been 1p.

Remind me, Geordie, what was the highest offer you got?? I can't remember that far back. (In fact I can't remember yesterday, and when you tell me, it'll be forgotten tomorrow)  I suffer from CRS syndrome

GEORDIE'S GAME SUMMARY

think that it's definitely worth mentioning the banker's incredibly stingy offers today. Here's the percentage-of-the-mean offers, compared to all 79 games so far.

Offer 1: £500 (3.0% of the mean)
Fifth worst offer at this stage to date.

Offer 2: £750 (5.7% of the mean)
Twelfth worst offer at this stage to date.

Offer 3: £200 (1.7% of the mean)
This is the banker's nadir. The worst ever offer at ANY stage so far.

Offer 4: £5000 (33.0% of the mean)
The only halfway decent offer today. Although at this stage there have been 27 worse offers and 49 better (in-play) offers.

Offer 5: £80 (29.5% of the mean)
Sixth worst offer out of the 58 games still in play at this stage.

Offer 6: £20 (40.0% of the mean)
Worst ever deal-of-two offer by quite some way. (The next worst is 60.0% of the mean.)

I can't see this as anything other than the banker forcing Geordie to take his own box -- he clearly doesn't like people who take the trouble to learn the odds.

I have always said that if I ever get on the show (which is highly unlikely as I shall never apply!) and I won a big amount I have certain plans for what I would do with the money.

I'd want in the region of £50,000 to help my parents out, let them take early retirement and cover the mortgage shortfall and various other bills, plus a bit of money in the bank for myself and for my sister, but anything more than that, and even if I won less than that, I would make sure that a fairly sizable chunk made it's way to my local hospital. I wouldn't be sat here today posting on this forum if it wasn't for a whole bunch of people on the intensive care unit and burns ward at my local hospital. I would make sure that I gave them something back, and if I was lucky enough to win the £250K, then I can assure you that a cheque for well over half that figure (at least £150K) would make its way to the local hospital and I would ask Noel to come along and present it on my behalf.

Even if I didn't win a "life changing" amount of money, I would still want to make a donation, so good on you. Choose somewhere personal that means something to you or your family. Good luck! Let us all know when you get on!
