Many of us on here seem to be 'put off' by Noel's attitude to the contestant recently and last year. This normally means:

- Often going against the player's opinions and being on the opposite side as them when he is supposed to be on their side.

- Shouting "IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH" When a high amount is discovered in a proveout.

- Saying what he thinks is in a player's box trying to get them to Deal/ Not Deal

- Exaggerating and rubbing in when a bad round happens.

It ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. Instead of trying to encourage more people to watch, viewers are put off by this and something needs to be done about his attitude.

What are your opinions on this?

He's good for entertainment value, but not so good any more when it comes to being neutral. As you say, he seems to be siding with the banker a lot at times. Overall, I don't think the show needs a new host, as I suspect that Endemol often tell Noel what to say, as he himself doesn't believe in "regrets".

In the proveout's Noel simply must do a build up, not as much as a guilt trip but still. If the £250,000 is still there to be found don't say 'Oooh wouldn't it be so sweet.. reveal it' (because that annoys me so much) but rather 'Oh my word! Was the £250,000 actually on the table today? Is this going to be another low number? Open box ...'

Something must be wrong! I agree with Lathebault!

I believe that it is Endermol that controls Noel, which is something that I should've thought about more, however I also think that it would be a good idea to have some guest hosts on for a while. I think this could liven up the show greatly and would be a break from Noel's attitude throughout the proveouts.

The thing that triggered me to set up this thread, was I was just watching a recording of Dot's game. And the proveout and Noel's attitude was shocking. He practically tried to turn the whole room against her; and as Lewis246 said; it felt like he had achieved that. It is disappointing to see contestants to be made out as 'wrong' just by dealing or more importantly not having a good prove-out round which isn't even in their control.

I have also seen when Noel tries to put contestants on a guilt trip; the contestants on the wing's body language suggests that they are annoyed with his attitude.

Maybe it's not Noel that has to change; it's Endermol, but in my opinion, something needsto be done about it, before it's too late.

Losing Noel would kill the show for me... I'm pretty certain thats why the million or so people tuned in for the first show and thats probably why they are tuning in day after day (although the money, format and contestants help :P )

He does go over the top but at least it shows he's passionate about the show! Calming down would be nice but then again I reckon editing plays its part...

I really could not imagine anyone else presenting it other than Noel. If it wasn't Noel, I'd like a past contestant to present it. My vote would go to a double act between Orry and Jean. I think that'd be fab!

In watching the show, Noel is the seasoning that makes it tasty.

His reactions in Trevor's game (which is what brought me to the DOND UK version in the first place) as well as the trepidation, anxiety, and ultimate joy when Laura won. He truly roots for the players inside, but perha[s a direction is being pushed on him by Endermol.

As one who has spent his time in the media for over 30 years, that kind of passion is not something which is fabricated. I feel he genuinely roots for the players moreso than our wooden actor Howie here in the states...

As a presenter, I can tell you that being on stage for an event such as Laura's game is a rush to be centre stage for a moment like that. He wants that again. He wants that moment again.

Re Dot's game: Look again at Noel's reaction when he and the pilgrims were proven wrong. It was a sign of joy that she didn't squander the shot at 250k and relief that she got a chunky piece of change!

One of the thing about presenters is that there is a true bit of the adrenaline junkie in us that has to be fed, and Noel seems to want that "big rush" again...

...not that I could blame him...

Where's the 'despite his sometimes annoying quirks it really wouldn't be the same without Noel' option?

Put in some guest hosts and see if we miss Noel then. I'd suggest Ricky Gervais - he's equipped for the job on paper and he's a known big fan of the show. Dale Winton and Davina McCall would probably be competent too, and all three of those would offer completely different approaches.

Noel isn't a bad host as such - he just has some pretty major flaws with regard to this format in my opinion, and I'd sooner see him hosting a show that doesn't involve these but does showcase his strengths. (A revival of House Party would count, or anything where FunNoel could shine and WakeyNoel wouldn't have the chance to come out to play.) Of course, the format and him are now so well-connected that we need to see if the show would survive without him. I'd hope it could.

Les Dennis and Brian Conley, if memory serves. Both of them would have done a decent job, as they proved on other shows on other channels later.

I like Noel a lot and think he does a grand job.

Yes maybe he does overeact at times, but I think that's due to the fact that Noel gets involved in the show as much as everyone else does. He has to build the tension to make the show feel more exciting, especially after someone has dealt.

Noel has to be on the ball all through out the show as he doesn't have any script to work with and that's something I like. You just never know what comment or observation he's going to make next.

Noel does have an ear piece so I don't know how much he is directed from the crew, but I suspect that's just to tell Noel if he or a player are in the way of a camera shot and maybe just to tell him the odd stat and to warn him that the Banker is going to offer a swap at the end.

I think if Noel left then the show would decline in ratings. Even if they could find a competent replacement Noel is as much part of the show now along with the 22 boxes and the Banker.

Basically I think Noel is doing the opposite of guilt trips in the proveout with 'Ooooh make it so sweet and find those reds. Go on!' I find it really disgusting and to be honest he should either go back to the guilt trips or shut up completely in the proveouts.

Mind you I LOVED the way he built up the £250,000 possibly being on the table in Dot's game. It certainly got the pilgrims groaning, gasping and screaming when the £75,000 went in proveout leaving £1 and £250,000!]

But I know that without Noel many viewers would actually turn off...

A new host will do the show good I mean Noel is really getting on my nerves. On Lloyds game Laura only revealed 20k with three of the power five and he yelled 'WE DID NOT WANT THAT' He's a ****stirrer he really is.

I think we should have a week or two where we send Noel on holiday and past contestants variously host the show. Ledgend contestants imagine Morris or Bunney's attitude to the game they won't say 'Ohhhhhhhhh Weeee did not wannnnttt thaattttt' They will we be fun and entertaining and not a dwarfing little pratt.

AOL have voted Noel as one of 'TV's most irritating' personalities. Their description is actually quite accurate...

"Will it be a red? Will it be a blue? Will it be one of the power five? Or will it be a nest of live wasps that can't tell the difference between the host's chemise and a bunch of foxgloves (fingers crossed)? Well, anything can happen on Deal or No Deal, hosted by cosmos-bothering pillock Noel Edmonds and a grumpy miser who lives in a phonebox round the corner. We liked DoND when it started, but under Noel's guidance it's become a non-stop identity parade of easily manipulated fools who all think that holding hands and "sending positive vibes" can magically alter the colour of a hidden bit of cardboard. Twonks. "

Anyway, I think Noel should stay. He does a pretty good job and keeps the viewers tuning in. Overall, biased or not, he is a great entertainer who is good at what he does.

I particularly found the "cosmos-bothering pillock Noel Edmonds" amusing. However, the "hand holding" and positvity is nothing new; it's been there since even the very early days of the show.
