My initial thought was it's Noel Edmonds but I think they've stopped the celebrity specials now and I've not heard he's going to be on it... so I'm guessing it's either Cocky Bill himself, Michaela or one of the other Sept 06 dealers! :P

Nev from September 2006 seems to be one of the people who are in the line-up to possibly play in tonight's episode. In fact he's just been chosen as the first player after getting fastest finger first in the fastest time... he's Paul Nevins on here.

The way the new money tree is now with £50K guaranteed and then £75K and £150K (instead of £32k/£64K/£125K), I'd be more tempted to have a guess at the question Nev took the money on.

As Paul (Nev) has now won over £100,000. He now qualifies for the UK Game Shows All Time Winners List. I've now updated the list and amusingly, this has happened.

Quote:
93 Jennifer Miller, Deal or No Deal - 18th November 2005 (£120,000)
94 Paul Nevins, Deal or No Deal - 14th September 2006 & Who Wants to be a Millionaire? - 29th January 2008 (£116,000)
95 Jonathan Bunney, Deal or No Deal - 31st January 2007 (£110,000)

Also if anybody wanted to know. His Phone-a-Friend was Diane Hallagan. She won £250,000 back in 2001. Like Paul, they were on The People's Quiz. He was on the Wildcard show, while she was on the main Saturday edition.

I was watching Millionaire trying to work out where I'd seen that guy before. I didn't realise that it was Nev.

That also makes Nevins the third person to make the All-Time Winners' List without a cheque for at least £100,000, and the first individual to win £100,000 across two shows without a single six-figure win.

(The other two on the list are the £170k team from Who Dares Wins, which I actually typed as The Rich List; as they were individuals forced into a team rather than a couple as per Millionaire's specials they would each have received £85k cheques.)

Also, he's the second person to appear on a second game show after DoND after a TBW and end up winning more across both shows than the potential winnings from DoND alone. (Nev's hypothetical two-box offer was £111,000, the hypothetical swap doesn't count.) The first is of course Fin, who won... was it £55,875 or was it more than that?... on 1 vs 100 last year.

Personally, I'm annoyed at this type of serial contestant. Maybe there's something about the idea of big money game shows being once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for anyone, rather than a lucrative closed shop for the same few people, that appeals to me. (I have no such problems with quizzes played for glory rather than fortune, such as Mastermind and formerly Fifteen-to-One. Ironically it is these shows and I think only these shows that have had regulations on multiple appearances...)

I would have wanted to play the £150k question if I'd got that far - I missed his first three, didn't know his £5k question but knew the next three, not a clue on the last two, so it would have come down to lifelines and luck - but I don't think I could have done. If I still had a 50:50 I wouldn't think twice (and, indeed, would have done the same on the old ladder).

Is it just my excessive sensitivity to light or are the lights swinging into position between questions on the middle tier rather brighter, certainly compared to the early years of Millionaire? I think they 'flash' a bit too, which looked really annoying to me.

I can see this point - Dennis won back his 15K on are you smarter than a 10 year old recently too. I think the same folk apply for lots of game shows.

never saw Nev on this though, when did they change the prize tree?

August 2007. Prize tree change I can live with, but the music's been ruined as well.

I knew the Ilfracombe and the House question, I guessed right on the Charles Dickens one, but didn't know the last one.

I think so too. I've seen a few former DOND contestants on Are You Smarter... and I saw an episode of Eggheads that Andy K was on.

I spotted show 56's Dave Woolin on "Are You Smarter.." a couple of weeks ago, and Andy Kelly's clip gets shown all the time.

I'm with KP. I hate serial game-show contestants as well, especially those who win one big prize and then go out and try and get another. They always seem to fish out of the same talent pool. I think it's almost impossible to name a former DonD contestant who hasn't been on another game-show rather than one who has. It's mostly down to having a certain personality for TV I guess (a producers thing), but there must be other people to choose from rather than career contestants who apply for everything going.

Where's my 45 minutes of fame? (not jealous at all!) :-D
