On ITV's new gameshow "Duel", there is an "accelerator" option where the player can hurry up their opponent and make them answer the question in 7 seconds - meaning the opponent normally flusters and places chips down on all 4 options. The aim of Duel is of course to keep as many chips as possible into the later stages of the game. Using too many of them early on could be bad; but at the same time taking a risk and only using one or two early on could be too much of a gamble and you could find yourself booted off the game early on.

What would DOND be like if the banker had an accelerator option? Or even if the player had an accelerator option to force the banker to give an offer within a certain time?

I suppose the banker has acceleration / deceleration methods that he does use - such as when he takes a long time to ring and says he is unsure about the offer. Also when he phones back when the player is about to ask for the question to remind them of their friends / family etc could be seen as a decelerator method. A possible accelerator method is when he rings quickly.

It would certainly bring an extra twist to the show if the Banker was allowed one accelerator per show which he could use after making an offer.

He could activate the accelerator after one of his offers which then gives the player 10 seconds (I would make it 10 to be a bit fairer) to either deal or no deal, if the player fails to answer in that time he could half the offer or even make them play on.

But it would be a bit unfair to rush a player through a potentially life-changing offer and I suspect more people would deal if they were forced to choose in such a short time.

It's a possibility, but would perhaps force unwise decisions. But that's the banker's job, I suppose.

I don't think this'd work too well - but it'd be a long way from the worst twist on the show.

And in a less constrained form, I'd say it'd be a necessity for a live show (and actually I'm not sure how many other limitations to a live show there are).

People wouldn't have enough time to analyse the board and they would deal.

Or how about an accelerator so the player has to force the banker to make an offer in a limited time?

Well that would be ideal for the banker as he is always trying to get players to deal.

But hasn't that always been the point of the banker? To buy the box for as little as possible? In the early days of DOND it was quite obvious the banker was either afraid of contestants having Power 5 boxes, or he was encouraging deals - with HUGE offers in the later stages of the game which usually got dealt. Nowadays, we often have stingy offers on 4 blues + a Power 5 board, usually making the player no deal.

But if the banker was able to use an accelerator to make the player deal when normally they'd no deal, then he'd be fulfilling his role for selling the box for as little as possible. It wouldn't be very fair on the player - but I don't think you can think about fairness on DOND any more as the games are so different from each other. It could be said it's unfair some players got to play for £500k... so fairness can't be thought about any more really.
