By definition, a TBW is when a contestant deals, but at such a bad time that he/she could have won more than twice that (sometimes even more than that) by dealing earlier/later, yet still sell the box/case for a profit.

I don't know about the UK Version, but in the US Version, the host would say "You made a great deal" when such a deal is made. Granted. a profit was mae on the box/case, and therefore, the OBW was avoided, but he/she could have won so much more by dealing at a better time.
And, the US Version has been having a lot of TBWs lately, most of them resulting from dealing too late, a few ohers by dealing too early, but still beating their box.

To avoid biasing the poll, I'll wait til later to state my opinion, but are TBWs really great deals.?

Noel Edmonds seems to be all over the place. Sometimes if a player deals too soon and misses out on a few thousand pounds, he'll make a big thing out of how they dealt too soon. Other times, if the player deals too late and misses out on a few thousand pounds, he'll say it's a great banker beating.

The other week, he spoke about how the player probably had regrets that they didn't deal at the third offer, and yesterday he was saying that it was the right deal at the right time even though the player had missed out on £7,000 by dealing too soon.

I don't think it matters whether it's a TPW or a TBW, Noel just seems to vary his methods. In my opinion, I don't think a TBW is a "great deal" as either by dealing earlier or later, you could have had considerably more money. I'd say a TPW is a good deal though.

Judging by other threads I take it that TBW means that the player dealt for less than half the peak that was available, which means it was a bad deal. If TPW's follow suit except it is more than half of the peak offer, it's not a bad deal but not a good deal as there was more in it.

I think selling your box for a lot more than it's value is a good deal.

No. Dealing too late is the prime example of a bad deal. Deal or No Deal is all about doing the right deal at the right time, a deal for say £20 000 after a drop from £33 000 is still good, because there is still the option of 'hypothetical play AFTERWARDS' to prove there was no more money. Knowing that after this £20 000 there was an offer of £60 000 to come, you know you could have sold your box for more times its amount.

Wouldn't say 'great deals'. But many of them are still perfectly fine. So I'm not voting for anything (though I lean 'no') and say 'treat it in terms of the game'.

The game we had in November 2005, where someone (Maurice) Dealt at a then-record £35,000, would have received a final offer of £105,000 but had 50p in the box - that was at the least a very good deal. Another game we had saw someone (Michael) Deal at £1,000, would have received a £30,000 offer at the end but had a blue in his box - that certainly wasn't a good deal at all!

To be honest, I'm not sure of the value of evaluating a deal with the benefit of hindsight. But certainly the way that Howie does so compared to Noel is highly telling.

Noel tends to treat deals after the peak offer, but more than the box (whether it's a TPW or TBW), as a great deal, but if the deal is earlier than the peak offer, then it's a terrible deal, even if they've only missed out on an extra 20% or so, like Lisa from last March! :)

But say, Rob from Sep 06 was treated like a hero having dealt for £3,500 after the peak offer of £20,000.10, and he only made a £500 profit on the box!!!
