I personally think It would be nice to do a bank of shows (like xmas stars) but live instead.

I think this because:

- Contestants normally say a lot of the good stuff is edited out.
- The editors can't do bad editing as there is no editing
- No spoilers are known as it is happening right now.

One of the disadvantages would be that an average un-edited show lasts around 2 hours, but if the contestant has a 1hour slot to stick to, it won't drag on. Also, the current shows are normally filmed 3 to a day, then solid for 2 weeks, then a two week break... then another 2 weeks with shows etc, so each contestant would look fresher on the wings/ in their show.

No it should not be live - that's unrealistic but shows should be 3-5 weeks in advance not 3-5 months!

A set of live shows would be nice, but would never work in reality. In theory, they could work, as any show could go live... but it just would not work.



That's easier said than done though, and I don't think a contestant would take it too well if Noel hurried them. I can't see the shows fitting exactly into the slot they're intended due to the varying amount of time the contestants spend over each offer. The wing banter would probably be normal than in the recorded and edited shows, as they'd probably be told to cut down on it as it's live and there wouldn't be time for it...

It can be done, it has been done in other countries (the Dutch €5m version is live, unless I'm very much mistaken), but it won't be done.

And that's a huge shame.

They could call an adbreak during big 'thinking time' periods. That'd work better too, I think.

I think a live show could work.

Dedicate one hour to the show. TV shows have pre-made commercials, knowing how long they last, so they can add the right ads at the right time.

Also, there can be a "pressure factor", in which if the Banker feels the player is taking to long to give a decision, the player can be given a set number of seconds/minutes to answer before time is up. "Millionaire" did a live show for their return, and by the clips on YouTube, it went well.

The box opening rounds won't take too long, but it's the conversation between players, the banker, Noel, and everybody else that can fill up time, and make the game more interesting without editing.

This is one of the things I would like to see happen just out of interest.

I always prefer live TV over pre-recorded (depending on the type of show it is) as I like the fact that anything can happen or go wrong, and in the cases when things do go wrong or someone makes a makes a mistake it can actually be quite entertaining to watch.

As for DOND though it wouldn't be feasible on a regular basis just due to the amount of shows they do, and the fact that they take on average a couple of hours to film means that if it were live a lot of stuff like wing banter would be reduced and everyone would feel under pressure to hurry, plus despite the fact they don't need to edit anything together means that the additional music and sound effects that we hear in the background after post production would have to be controlled by someone in the production team as it happens, which might not work as well. The onscreen board and offer graphics would also have to be done the same way.

But I would at least like to see them try it once.

It would be very interesting to see a live show but it could also be a little problematic.

Most obviously, if live it would have to be post watershed in case of the possible blurt out by a contestant if one of the power 5 gets taken out of play. However, if it's as-live which DOND would likely be in this scenario, then it could be any possible time, best in my opinion being against the soaps. Granted this could be a little more make or break but it would put C4 in what I think would be a better position then with other programming because more people would be engrossed with the show as the game progresses.

However I could only see the idea work with celebrities playing for a chosen charity. This might again increase their strength against the competition on the other channel and could also interest other people with what it's trying to achieve. Also putting the half a million or even a million would assist in this to.

I agree that the show should be 2 hours if a show occured, alternativly if a contestant hasn't finished by this duration the end of their game could be either broadcast live the next day or completed off air and highlights shown the next day, however this would probably be too (forgot the word); basically cruddy

I don't see how it could work live. Apart from the obvious time constraints and the chance of a contestant swearing/saying something inappropriate, it wouldn't be feesable for many players to stand in the wings for anything up to 5 weeks. I mean, what employer is going to allow a worker to have 5 weeks off work? If they don't do it live, it means players can stay longer in the wings. It would, however, be possible to do it live if they were to revert to the American system, where models open the boxes (or suitcases in the American one). That way, the show wouldn't be as emotionally charged, so less chance of swearing and crying (which takes up time!) and the contestants need only take off their work the time they need to film their own show.

There's also the fact that a week of live shows wouldn't be feasible continuity wise if they used the regular 22 contestants. The only way round it would be if whilst filming the regular shows, where the 5 live shows were to be transmitted, there would be have to be a show where there were in essence 5 newbies.

It would also mean the 22 having to come back after their shows had been filmed to film the live shows.

That is a problem! However if it was like the Xmas stars, and the shows are completely unrelated so 23 new players a game (Wings and Pound table) then in theory, it may work better.

As you all know there is so much bantering edited, it is a shame really.
But I do think a lot of you are right, I dont think that would be feasible.
At the moment, minus the adverts, the show runs for approx 35 mins, and yes each show does take 2hrs to film, so if they just added another 15 mins onto the show it would be great! channel 4 could even put in another ad break ( more money) then the viewers would, hopefully, see how much input the east and west wing have, and enjoy the bantering between everyone.

in theroy its a good idea & it would be nice to do that,may for as a seasonal speacial.corrie on itv did it also did the bill on itv ,but then there actors & not live contestants

Yes, I think they should go live one day. Personally, I wouldn't mind something like that myself, but the only I don't really see that happening and not even in a few years time because you know how... strange Edenmol can be sometimes.

Pre recorded shows are great you can say what you want as you know naughty bits are great fun and they will be edited.Two hour shows are all right we really do stay fresh ,it is so cold in the studio you could,nt go to sleep if you tried,i think that,s why they have such good air conditioning blowing at the back of the boxes.

When I went to the studio recordings one thing I found a bit annoying was how long some of the contestants would take picking their boxes and making a decision about the banker's offers. You can have the patience for this if you are in the studio audience, but a TV audience wouldn't, and enforcing a time limit for decisions wouldn't work either.

Or the Dutch primetime original, where the models bring the cases in but the actual opening is by beaten finalists in the audience-participation quiz... but yes, it isn't a good fit for the future-contestants-open-boxes model, and more's the pity.

Imagine though if the show was live when they had that powercut. If it had been live there wouldn't be much they could do except stop the show for that day.
