Ok, that was the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. I JUST turned on Channel 4, and the first thing I see, is, erm...

It was great to see old Noel-y on Countdown - I'd been watching the 1st ever episode which was really interesting to watch. I kept it on C4 for the 25th anniversary special and Noel appeared choosing the vowels / consonants at the start of one of the rounds. Other people who appeared included Patrick Moore and Terry Wogan... even Gordon Brown left a message for Countdown!

They've got special guests choosing the letters, and here's Noel in action:



Only to then get a call from the Banker who gets confused and asks for two from the top:



Apparently they've been showing the old 80s/90s idents all day, so that should be fun to watch out for at 4:15! Today's show is repeated tomorrow before the DOND special, I think.

Sorry to bump this up, but I just realised that the contestants behind Noel are the ones on TV right now. That's Sandra, Natasha, Glen, Jules, Stephen and Hayley in that picture, and at one point in the clip you can also see Clive, Pat, Jonny, Patricia and Deano. Looking at what boxes they have it would have been recorded at the same time as Olly's game.

And to think we still had contestants like Charly, Mary and Simon at the time on TV!
