Who do you prefer? Younger contestants, or Older contestants. Just funny that there are a lot of young people on now

OLDER CONTESTANTS RULE! :-D OLDER CONTESTANTS RULE! :-D OLDER CONTESTANTS RULE! :-D OLDER CONTESTANTS RULE! :-D OLDER

The only reason why I say this is becauser they don't need to set an example anymore too thbeir children as they are all probably grown up.

I like both, but to be honest my favorite contestants have been older
(over 40 anyway!) ;)

I like to see a wide variety of all different ages in all honesty - I think my ideal 22 is pretty balanced in this way too! :)

Without a mixture of both it would be fairly boring but most of the great characters have been older.

It depends on what you mean by 'young' and 'old', really, I mean, where do contestants in their 30s and 40s stand?

The young contestants have one thing for them which is that a lot of the female ones have been really pretty. I think the older ones comprise most of the legendary ones, but I'm happy with the current state of affairs of a mixture of old and young contestants!

glad I got that off my chest...

Must you be so over the top?

I agree with Tom, it's good to see a mixture of the two, but a lot of the really good contestants have been older.

I think that's a good summary, completely agree with that!

Of course we do need a variety, whether that's between young/old, male/female, cautious players/gamblers or big characters/quieter ones - as one of the best things about the show is that it's always different!

Enough spamming! There's only one use for this thread and that's to discuss whether older or younger players are preferred, not 'OLDER PLAYERS RULE' spam.

Anyway, back on topic, older players don't seem to take as many risks as the money means a lot more to them. However there a few exceptions (Pat M a more famous example) that just play the game. And for quite a few of them, it pays off. Most recently Rodney yesterday, but also players such as Lance (£87,000), Patrick (£50,000), and Jeff (£64,000).

But note with all those three above, the Banker still managed to batter them! Ironic...

Older. I basically like all four age/gender combinations except younger men, whom I generally find pretty boring (ironic seeing as I am one), but I tend to like the majority of older players regardless of their gender. Although I also then feel even worse if they lose...

The best age is between about 30 and 50, a bracket that includes myself! :-D Many of the "characters" have been older than that I grant you, but I still prefer the middle age generation. :D

Let's not forget Jennifer (£120,000) and Lynne (£75,000)- who if I remember rightly was nearing 60. The banker didn't batter Lance or Jeff, they were just unfortunately beaten by the box and he certainly didn't batter Jennifer or Lynne.

However, I agree that a mix of old and young is good because we get a lot of interaction between the two and they all seem to get on regardless of a 40 or even 50 year age difference.

Actually, the majority of them probably come in the "old" category no matter how young they look, as they always seem to be about 20 years older than I thought...I couldn't believe Rodney was 70!

And I couldn't believe Julian was 60!

As for the comments about Lynne and Jennifer, yes two outright wins I purposefully missed out because I was going on about the Banker victories. I only said Lance and Jeff were battered because Noel once said it doesn't matter how much the Banker has to offer to get the player out of the chair, if he makes a profit, he'll be happy.

EDIT: The Banker definitely battered Jeff - he made a £36,000 profit!

Older contestants are more entertaining and sometimes more respectful over money.

It seems to me that as a general rule older contestants seem to be far more likely to go for it than younger ones and thus give more entertaining games.

By time you get to your 50s/60s/70s most people have no mortgages, no big debts etc and have got lifes that are settled so are more willing to gamble £20/30K for a chance to go for the big one. If they lose it then they are still very comfortable as they are.

A young person faced with student debts, huge house prices, mortgage, car loans etc will see £20/30k as a huge step-up in life. Faced with a choice of a certain £20k or a possibilty of winning £250/100k or losing the lot they'll deal.

No doubt there are exceptions to this rule but maybe an analysis of age v winnings would confirm or deny this theory.

Only real exception to this rule that I can think of is Johnnie (in terms of dealing REALLY early and being old) and in terms of being young and going for it (when I say young, I mean 20s-30s in this case) was Laura and Kirsty (1). Obviously, I'm concentrating on those who succeeded. I'm sure lots of young people went for it and failed but they tend to be forgotten.

I usually find older contestants more entertaining. It's probably just because a lot of my favourites have been older, like Pat M, £57k Brenda, Stevie, Joseph and at the moment, I absolutely adore Violet. In terms of gameplay, I don't have a particular favourite group. I like how some people are cautious, while others go for the big money. If they all had the same attitudes, it would get a bit boring.
