There were some comments on one of the show threads this week about them feeling the need to throw in a lot of new twists to keep it "fresh" after quite a short space of time, and that being down to it being daily and racking up almost 600 shows in two years, compared to other shows which are weekly etc.

That got me thinking about a parallel universe where DOND was a weekly show, but with the same contestants and games etc. So after slightly over two years, even without a summer break, we would now be at about show 105 (which was Norma's game in early March 2006).

So after two years we would have seen:
- A highest win of £120,000 which had stood since Jennifer's game in show 17 (which would have aired in February 2006), everyone would be saying that was unbeatable! Brenda's £57,000 would be the second biggest win (it's not even in the top 20 in reality now!) with Germaine due to air in about three weeks' time.
- 2 1p winners, Nick and Trevor of course. But the first blue win wouldn't have been screened until April 2006.
- No power 5 box wins. The largest no-deal to the end win would be Vanessa's, which would only have aired in about May this year.
- "50 show" Lucy would be currently in the wings, having just appeared on her 27th game so yet to break the record of Karen from the early days!
- We would be in the middle of the "sequencegate" controversy right now!

And Laura's £250,000 win would not be seen on screen until... July 2012!

If it was weekly, I doubt we would see show 105. Given many game shows here have shorter runs. Even Millionaire run for 30 weeks a year.

An Olympic special! God, though, imagine if they'd have still kept the current filming schedule...

"You are Laura Pearce, is that correct?"
"Yep, Noel! I'm 24..."
"No, you're 30"
"Oh yeah, sorry. Anyway, sadly one of my guinea pigs died two weeks ago..."
"No...he died five and a half years ago, remember?"
"Oh! Erm...god, this is confusing, why do we have such a silly backlog?"
"You think this is bad? Countdown are still in 1996...how else do you think Carol Vorderman looks so young?"

ahem.

But yeah, wow, to think that we'd only be up to Norma is a crazy thought. People talk about March 2006 as the golden era, but if that had happened then they'd be talking about, erm, October 2007 to April 2008!

I'm glad it does air more than weekly as it keeps this place buzzing. What on earth would this forum be like on the days when DOND isn't on, I shudder to think!

They also wouldn't be able to have 21 future contestants opening the boxes, as they'd have to be there for ever!! Which means one of the main components of the show wouldn't be there, and I doubt I'd be as attracted to the show! :)

Lucy would have been there for 2 weeks short of a year!!!

I'm sure you wouldn't have minded having 21 identically dressed models on every show though James! :D

In all honesty I find loads of the women who appear on our show loads more attractive than the American models! ;-)

is doing weekly shows with dond a good idea.? millionaire started out as weekly shows back in 1998 but then it was fresh. them the audience switched off. the key difference in the two here is the contestants are interchangeable where as on dond they remain the same as they are garranteed a place at some point, millionaire does not have that garrantee. so i dond think week shows on dond could work

One good thing would be they could roll the shows over. Then Noel wouldn't have to make a big deal of the proveout which seems to upset so many people.

Well they could just start the next game when the previous one finished, like millionaire. Can't do that daily because it's too many players, too expensive.

Then Noel wouldn't have to build the drama post deal. He could play it out quickly because it wouldn't need to keep people watching to the end as it does now. That's why he does the whole "it not enough!!!" dramatic stuff now. Because he has to keep people watching.

I think if Deal or No Deal started out weekly, it wouldn't have had the phenomenon hit that it has had, and I doubt I would have been hooked on it like I am.

If for some strange reason, Channel 4/Endemol decide to put it on weekly in the future, it would lose a huge element of the show and I'd probably lose interest in it.
