Sorry if this has been brought before, but I was just wondering what the marking on Noel's hand was today? I know he had them last year...does anyone know?

I completely forgot about this, with all the excitement of the game! I think it was the heart with what looks like a letter L inside it, one of the ones we saw before?

Must be the first time for about a year we've seen this anyway, and still nobody solved the original mystery as far as I know!

I believe the symbols stopped at the end of the first week of season 2, as the first one of Monday 28th August was "WWW", then "RED" on Tuesday, "BOX" on Wednesday, "CLUB" on Thursday and "COM" on Friday.

As far as I know, it was a hoax set up by Noel to get everyone talking about it... the website www.redboxclub.com was inviting suggestions as to what the symbols meant and were offering a prize of a tour of the DOND studios and a blue-box opening I think, however I believe the terms and conditions were amended to say the competition was open indefinitely! :P

And this was the original thread on the topic, which went rather off-topic and became perhaps the funniest forum thread of all time!

Symbolic - Blobbified!

I remember in a Richard & Judy interview about this time last year, he said that all would be revealed after the show's summer break, as R&J were asking him about the press' rumours that the symbols were to do with the cosmos... I think Noel then revealed in another interview (either on TV or in a newspaper) last autumn that they were a joke and he couldn't believe people on the internet were keeping track of them.

Yes, Noel said it was a joke when he was hosting The Friday Night Project back in January.

The link seems to be dead now. I'm not sure legally if they have to provide an answer though.

I don't think they do, especially as it didn't cost anything to enter... and I think it said in the terms and conditions, as is often the case with these things, that they had the right to cancel it at any time... seems odd that they should go to the trouble of setting up a website, offering a fake prize, etc. Maybe it was in fact genuine and no-one got the right answer and Noel said it was a joke to cover up the fact no-one got the right answer?

It appears to be the letter L with a heart in it. Just a thought, Lynn played yesterday, did whoever play on 23/3/06 have an initial L?

It was Dave Cheeseman on 23 March 2006... so no. Didn't we think at the time that it could be the first letter of the name of his current girlfriend at the time? Maybe he's found new love...... LIONEL!

Article in Evening Standard Wayback in Jan 2007

When you first dip a toe into the property market, it pays to have an experienced adviser.

And who better to look after your interests than a father with a rather impressive property portfolio of his own and a regular job driving hard bargains on primetime television?

It was no doubt under the watchful eye of Noel Edmonds that his 20-year-old daughter Lorna became the proud owner of this £1.4 million grade II listed house.

Clearly well out of the reach of the average first-time buyer, it is described by estate agents as "one of Exeter's finest homes" and boasts six-bedrooms, a conservatory and garaging for five cars.

A spokesman for Edmonds refused to reveal where Lorna, a keen horsewoman, obtained the money, saying only that "various arrangements" were made after her parents' recent divorce.

Edmonds, host of Channel 4's Deal or No Deal, has been paying close attention to building work being carried out on the imposing Georgian property, and his presence has prompted speculation among the neighbours as to the motivations behind the purchase.

A property expert said that if Edmonds had bought the house for his daughter, there were two reasons for making such a gift. "Firstly, provided he lives for another seven years, then she will not be liable for any inheritance tax on the property," he said.

"Secondly, provided it is Lorna's main residence, she will not have to pay capital gains tax on any profit when it is sold."

Whether the home will benefit from the feminine touch of the star's new girlfriend, 38-year-old makeup artist Liz Davies, is unclear.

She has already visited his £3 million chateau near Nice, but it is not known whether she has been given a tour of the dilapidated £1.7 million property in 30 acres of Devon countryside which he bought last year.

The 15-bedroom mansion was to be the presenter's "bachelor pad" after he parted from Helen, his wife of 19 years. But it has been empty for two years and rumours are rife that he may be planning to sell it or convert it into flats.

A local said: "We haven't even seen so much as a paintbrush and there is plenty of woodwork there which needs it. The fabric of the building is falling apart, tiles are missing from the roof and the terrace walls in the garden are crumbling."

Edmonds would certainly be more comfortable in the Exeter house, which is near to the school attended by his two youngest children and not too far from the Bristol studios where Deal or No Deal is filmed.

He has enjoyed a long love affair with Devon. In a recent magazine interview, he said: "Even after selling my old home and after the divorce I knew I wanted to stay in Devon.

"Exeter is such an exciting place to be with all the buzz of a university city and some major businesses.

"You also have the beaches of the South Coast on your doorstep and fantastic walks on the moors just a stone's throw away.

"There's a community feel here too and a pride in the South-West. People care about their county."

He grew attached to the county while living at Broomford Manor, the enormous estate where his family grew up.

But his sentimental view of that property appears to have changed since his marriage broke down. "A house is just a heap of bricks without people," he said.

No there hasn't.

Maybe it was Lorna's birthday this time round, and last time he did it, it was just a random part of the system.

Noel Hand Symbol Mystery Cracked

The Noel Hand Symbol mystery dramatically deepened this week with yet another sighting of the symbol on his current hit TV show No Deal or Deal after a long period of silence.

A team of specially chosen crypotographers from the British Museum specialising in ancient ciphers and languages have been working around the clock to finally lay to rest this tantalising enigma that has gripped the nation for well over a year.

A spokesman from the team, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that after the Egyptian hieroglyphics and the etchings engraved on the pillars of Stonehenge this has been the toughest nut to crack.

'But we done it', he said gleefully, 'The main symbol has been analysed with our very latest nuclear magnetic resonance scanner, and we are finally able to reveal is a sign representing a heart.'

'It represents love', he added, ' The exact same symbol was found on the mummified hand of Anthony of ancient Egypt and inside the heart there was a C which we believe represented Cleopatra'.

'Further analysis has revealed the symbol inside the heart to be an L', he said, 'So we strongly suspect in Noels case a strong link with someone he loves beginning with the letter L'.

But there, unfortunately the mystery has deepened because despite media reporters camped out on his Devon palace doorstep for weeks no clue has been revealed as to whom the mystery love interest may be.

Fascinating stuff.

I bloody well hope not!

What a waste of several hundred thousand pounds that would be! You are joking, yes? :o

If that is what they are spending their National Lottery grants on then I won't be playing ever again!
