ITA!

Personally I think this is the funniest bit -

Usha was asked to link to the commercial break. She did this in her native language, which is not widely understood to the general white British public. This may have offended members of the white British viewers

Why on earth would they be offended?!?!

DEAL OR NO DEAL EPISODE WEDNESDAY 19TH APRIL 2006

At precisely 4:22pm and sixteen seconds into this episode, the host Noel Edmonds was heard to emit a loud noise of "AAAAOOOOOOUUUUUUU" and tell the playing contestant, Linda, that she was 'dim'.

I find this massively offensive to all the real dim people out there who are unable to find jobs because they are dim, and in fact the woman in question was, in her own words, "far from dim".

I will tomorrow be protesting outside the dream factory with massive placards featuring Linda's face and the words "She's far from dim" next to it.

Paul, are you looking for attention or are you inherently stupid? Get a life. No, seriously. Get a life. It was all a bit of fun. Brian acts like that all of the time on the show. If a player didn't want to participate in the ceremony then they had every right to refuse. Other players have spoken in a different language before to announce the break link IIRC.

What you are saying is actually racist. She can speak how she wants, when she wants and you have no right to say otherwise. I find how the daleks speak in Doctor Who offensive because it takes the mickey out of Stephen Hawking. I also find the fact that people perceive the Irish to be stupid when they aren't offensive because I am Irish myself. I find the fact that you are being racist on this forum offensive too!

For god's sake Paul, I agree with Greeny, I SERIOUSLY hope that you are joking. If members of the British Public are offended by a woman speaking Indian on TV then they are seriously sad. Does that mean that they are offended when Mariette used to say 'Bonne Chance' to people. I think not!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You make me so angry you................................ I'll stop now before I say something that I will REALLY regret

EDIT: The dalek thing isn't serious by the way. Hawking copied them after all!

Guys, look at it from all the different views...

Yes the British public may take offense.

But most, including me, probably wathed today's and felt like if anything they were trying to be racially equal by letting Usha speak in her own language, talk about her life outside of the country, and the rest.

You will have people offended, definitely, but that's racism for you - unfortunately the harsh truth these days is that a lot more than half the UK nation these days are racist, and most won't even admit it.

Think about it - and this goes to peeps like Cookie who might still be at school, or just finished - have you ever seen goups of peeps calling certain classmates 'stupid Pakis', or to be general, 'stupid 'Wogs'.

I rest my case.

Now I hope I didn't offend anyone with this post. This is just simply my opinion, especially after seeing so many youths and adults being racist.

I don't quite get what your point is BD.

It's nearly as bad as the original post to be honest.

The original "complaint" is almost too bizarre to justify a response... but I can't understand why anyone would take offence.

Contestants are encouraged to personalise their game. "It's your show", as Noel says. We've had a very large number of contestants who were from ethnic minorities or were born outside Britain. Why not bring your own culture into the show, if it's something you strongly identify with? We've had people speak in different languages before. Would anyone really have been offended by Giorgio speaking Italian for example? And surely anyone watching could see the bit involving Brian was a joke between him and Noel.

DEAL OR NO DEAL EPISODE THURSDAY 5TH JULY 2007

At the beginning of the episode, contestant Usha, a Hindu woman, was shown painting a Hindu symbol of good luck on the foreheads of her fellow contestants.

I got to agree with Paul on this one, although not about the greetings before the commercial break which was fine. But the dot on the forehead goes beyond race, culture, and "good luck". It represents a vital component of Hinduism so is blatant promotion of a religious faith: it is the "third eye" in Hinduism which to quote wikipedia "is the ajna chakra (sixth chakra) also known as brow chakra or brow centre This is commonly denoted in Indian and East Asian iconography with a dot, eye or mark on the forehead of deities or enlightened beings, such as Shiva (God of Destruction), the Buddha, or any number of yogis, sages and bodhisattvas. This symbol is called the "Third Eye" or "Eye of Wisdom", or, in Buddhism, the urna. In Hinduism, it is believed that the opening of Shiva's third eye causes the eventual destruction of the universe."

Just imagine if a contestant promoted their faith by giving a copy of the Koran to each of their fellow contestants during the show, or a mini-Buddha doll, or marked their foreheads with the sign of the cross in red. I think that would offend a few people wouldn't it!? And it wouldn't really be any different. :?

Well £31,000 Jo had a Buddha. Does that mean she was promoting a religion? No

I think that's fine if contestants want to put something on their box that means something to them, but getting the other contestants involved like Usha did today is different.

Usha was doing what made her feel comfortable and none of the contestants complained. They seemed to like it, so where's the problem?

I think people should only be marked by the red dot, sign of the cross, or anything else that is an important part of a religious faith if they genuinely believe in it, otherwise it could be seen to cheapen other people's beliefs. That's why Hindus watching might not have been comfortable with it, let alone anyone else.

Well I think if we can't learn to accept and understand and become involved in other people's religions so we can communicate with them.

If people can't accept that then they are sad.

I agree with that actually, I just think that people should be careful about
taking something on that is spiritually powerful without knowing what it is first as they may not know what they are getting themselves into. :D ;)
