Hi there folks!

Image

I'm Bob - 51, work at home, married, living in a village near Weston-super-Mare in Somerset - and totally addicted to DonD!

Been watching for a few months now - and am so obsessed with it I've started tracking the boxes and their money on an Excel spreadsheet to see if a pattern emerges!

How sad is that?!

Anyway - nice to meet you all! :smt039

I'm sure I will! 8)

From your Noel Edmonds biography on your Blog, Suezan:
Quote:
... he had become obsessed with Pirate Radio and had even built himself a makeshift studio in his bedroom. As far back as he can remember Noel wanted to be a D.J. "All i ever wanted to do was go into radio, even when I was very small," he says " My passion for radio grew from Pirate Radio Stations that were anchored off the Essex Coast. I realised there was a direction in which I could go. It was the first time I realised I had the power to communicate with people. Its my only gift, I wanted a job that involved me in peoples lives, and that was it"

Amazing. Very similar to my early ambition to get into radio. I was also obsessed with the Pirates and knew from the age of 12 (in 1967, when the government of the day closed them down) that all I wanted to do was be on the radio to emulate my pirate heroes.

I didn't have a studio in my bedroom - but my school friend (another radio anorak) did, and we spent hours and hours in there over a number of years through our teens, making up pretend radio stations with full schedules and doing our own 3-hour shifts, practicing our "skills".

In my early 20s, after some years working in hospital radio, I finally made it onto proper radio - at Pennine Radio (as was) in Bradford in 1979. From there I went to several other commercial stations, including DevonAir (as was) in Exeter/Torbay, CBC (as was) in Cardiff, County Sound (as was) in Guildford, Spire FM in Salisbury and Gold Radio (as was) in Shaftesbury - mostly doing breakfast shows. I also built up my work as a voice-over man during this time.

Now I work at my home studio voicing radio commercials for various stations around the UK, and recently got into podcasting, making my own weekly show. It's currently "on hold" while I have a little re-think about where exactly the podcast's going - but like Noel, I've never lost my love of the entertainment business in general and radio in particular. Like him, I've always felt that need to be communicating with people; radio - and now podcasting - is such a terrific way of doing it!

Noel's radio shows were required listening in the 70s/80s - second only to The Great Master Of All Time, Kenny Everett. Noel's transition to TV was brilliant (as was Ken's). Now, after several years quiescence, it's great to see Noel back on our screens. No-one else could do DonD like him. He's a star!

:smt020

PS can't wait to read the rest of his biography, Suezan! :smt024

Weston hosted a Harley-Davidson rally on Saturday 29th April 2006. It was a lovely sunny day - the first really great, if slightly late, day of spring - and nearly 1,000 Harleys paraded around the town, then parked up on the green near the beach:

Loads more pics of the rally at my Forum - and a 27-minute-long movie too! - but you have to be registred to view them in the "private" Listeners' Corner section, accessible only by registered members.

Feel free to join up!

Just discovered the DonD Game Stats button at the top of each page. Oh boy. That'll keep me busy for a while! :smt024

In the meantime, tell me, boys: have there been any discernible patterns emerging (apart from the computer glitch I just read about in the News section ...)? :smt102

Yeah it was the Tropicana, I cant believe its shut down. It was the first pool that had an Aqua Catch and as I cant swim and hate my head going under water it was fab to be able to go on all the slides. Its been about 13 years since I was there.

Welcome Bob! :D

I remember County Sound in what would have probably been the early 90's. As a kid with a dodgy radio, it was about the limit of what you could pick up living on the South Coast! Very crackled and hissy but I do remember it!

I also went to Weston Super Mare a few years ago for a football match. There seemed to be a competition going on in town to see who could wear the most garish shell-suit but it did occur to me afterwards that this could be perfectly normal Weston behaviour.... :-D

Anyway, welcome again!
