There are of course 5 different types of win on DOND - an outright player win (OPW), outright banker win (OBW), and then the non-OPWs - where neither the player nor the banker wins conclusively - the technical player win (TPW), technical banker win (TBW) and, on rare occasions, a draw.

But what have been the longest runs of OBWs and OPWs, and indeed non-OPWs (OBWs, TPWs and TBWs)?

I've noticed that at the moment, we seem to be in a run of non-OPWs - and indeed a run of OBWs - the last proper OPW we had was Sarah M on 11th March - nearly 3 weeks ago! Nigel's game was statistically an OPW, but the hypothetical swap that went wrong meant the game didn't have the "feel-good" factor a proper OPW has! :( Even if you count Nigel's game as an OPW - the run of non-OPWs from Patrick to Steven was still 10 shows!

I'm not sure if this is the longest run of non-OPWs - I seem to remember there was a similar run last April.

I'm tempted to say that January 2007 contained a long run of OPWs, as it contained many high wins - but I think that despite there being many big wins in that month, there were actually comparatively very few OPWs!

Let's hope a run of OPWs starts today!

There was a 14 game run, from Jo's to Lisa's in October where every game was a non-OPW - that run consisted of 2 TPWs (Shell and Trev), 3 TBWs (David W, Susannah, Peter), and 9 OBWs!

non-OPWs are either TBWs or OBWs. one of the two

The £35k came to the table 4 times this month, and twice it was (hypothetically) swapped for. This is also an interesting statistic as a certain box should only appear twice a month at the very most.

This might not be the place to ask, but what is the difference between a TPW and a TBW?

I only ask because in the examples listed above (Shell/Trev-TPW, David/Susannah/Peter-TBW) I can't tell the difference. All the players won higher amounts than were in their boxes, but all could have had more money by dealing earlier in the game. So what's the difference?

If you take over half of your highest offer and have less in your box, it's a TPW, while if you take less than half but have less in your box, it's a TBW.

A Technical Player Win (TPW) is when the player wins more than 50% of the peak offer...so a Technical Banker Win (TBW) is when they win less than 50% of it. In three games - Jim (1), John M and Brian (1) - the player won exactly 50% of the peak offer, resulting in a Technical Draw.

Were Nalini's and Margaret's Draws as well? They turned down their highest offers but won the same in their box.

A lot of proveout offers end up being just over double the amount dealt, to strategically ensure a TBW. I hate them, with a vengeance. :(

The "rules" don't quite cover all eventualities in terms of possible "draw" scenarios... there was quite a bit of discussion of those games on Bother's Bar (the site that came up with the scoring system).

Take Margaret's game for example, if that highest offer had been £20,000.01 it would have been an OBW, if the offer had been £19,999.99 it would be an OPW. So you would say the logical result would be an Outright Draw... though as she won the most money available to her in the game, some might say it would be fair to award an OPW.

Dealing for the same amount as turns out to be in your box is even more confusing - e.g. what if you deal for £20,000, miss out on an offer of £30,000 but have £20,000 in your box? There's a few ways of interpreting that.

Swaps have also caused confusion, but the generally accepted method seems to be to take the box value as the box they had in front of them at the moment they dealt (after all, that's the box the Banker paid for), or if they did not deal, the box they opened at the end. That takes the annoying hypothetical swaps out of the equation.

In reading the UK threads, I noticed that your version currently has a NINE game streak of non-OPWs.

The US Version, earlier this season, has had about FORTY!! consecutive games without an OPW, but OPWs are generally rarer in that format.

But, what ranks as the longest ever OPW-less streak on the UK DOND?
