Well, why should we? Unlike the National Lottery, nobody watching has gambled any money on what amount is going to be in the player's box. The only people who need to see that stuff are the people directly affected, that is, the players themselves.

Because we are being sold a show that claims to be fair and random. We are being asked to phone in at premium rates to help them swell the coffers. And because it would benefit the show itself if everyone is shown the process and can see that it is perfectly fair and random - then no-one can cry fould and claim that it's a fix.

As in, if you've got nothing to hide, then there's no reason to hide it.

Well, there is a reason to 'hide' it. That reason being that it would be tedious and boring to have to watch every tiny detail of how the boxes are allocated every day. It wouldn't be interesting to watch and I really don't think that would benefit the show at all.
