well, i thought now would be a good time to do it, as we are approaching 100 shows...

using screwthebanker and bother's bar, i have compiled 4 charts, listing the 10 players to win the most money, the 10 players to win the least money, the 10 players to screw the banker the most (ie, sell a low value box for a high amount), and the 10 players to lose to the banker the most.

Can someone please tell me why of all the sites that have stats on the show, the only gap is for "player 14" and it says "removed by request".

Presumably it was at the request of the player, but from what I can gather they came away with £4800 (with a highest offer of £28K). I suppose this could be classed as a bad deal, but why all the secrecy. It's a TV show - by going on something like this surely you agree to all the publicity. Why don't they want their details being released? It's only a bit of fun. What's wrong with putting a name up? I'm puzzled.

Nice summaries there. Allow me to offer one or two corrections...

The eighteenth name that should also be there is Beryl's.

Quote:
15 never accepted a deal, and simply opened their box (Nick, Raj, Irene, John G., James, Ann, Simon, Pat, Garvan, Jenna, Vanessa, Robbie, Tina, Fin, Oli and Rob)

Remove Robbie's name from that list and you're spot on.

Quote:
the other 66 have all made deals between £20 and £120,000. (I am assuming Player 14, whose playing details have been removed by request falls into this category)

Player 14 did indeed do a Deal in that (wide) range. As indeed did all of the people whose box amount was greater than their winnings, listed above.

Quote:
The total of money that the players have won is:

£1,606,645.11

I make it £1,614,545.11 -- I think you've omitted Beryl's £3100 today and Player 14's £4800.

Quote:
The total amount the banker has earned (from buying boxes) is:

£1,753,948.92

How have you calculated this? If we're counting the original box that the player had (before any swap), then I think that the total amount the players have had in their boxes so far is £1,775,679.42

Quote:
meaning the banker has made profit over the players of:

£147,303.81

I reckon it's £161,134.31 -- The Banker has saved himself around 9.1%.

Quote:
The average win of a player: £16,563.35

I make it £16,308.54 -- again I think you've omitted Beryl and Player 14.

Please feel free to tell me that I'm wrong!

Another statistic that might be interesting:

Top 10 'Worst' Deals (largest difference between deal value and potential winnings).

The top three of these are obviously the people who had the quarter-million in their boxes; Sara is fourth with £144,000 (dealt at £31,000, peak offer £175,000); Lee would also move up that list with £115,000 (dealt at £50,000, peak offer £160,000) and Maurice, who appears on the Top Profiters list, might sneak into this one too with £70,000 (dealt at £35,000, peak offer £105,000).

After 99 programmes:

1. Natalie (Show 10, 10 November 2005), missed £228,000
2. Daz (Show 88, 11 February 2006), missed £205,000
3. Mally (Show 22, 24 November 2005), missed £196,000
4. Sara (Show 33, 7 December 2005), missed £144,000
5. Lee (Show 46, 22 December 2005), missed £110,000
6= Elaine (Show 36, 10 December 2005), missed £88,000
6= Charles (Show 77, 30 January 2006), missed £88,000
8. Jo (Show 39, 14 December 2005), missed £81,000
9. Max (Show 52, 30 December 2005), missed £80,000
10. Maurice (Show 11, 11 November 2005), missed £70,000

As you can see, Maurice does sneak into the top ten at the moment.

An interesting little coincidence is that many people on that list played in shows that were a multiple of 11 (Maurice -- show 11, Mally -- show 22, Sara -- show 33, Charles -- show 77, Daz -- show 88). Doesn't mean anything, like...

Another point to make is that all of the people on the above list lost out by Dealing too early. The person who so far has missed out on the most money by Dealing too late (or going all of the way) would be Fin (Show 95, 20 February 2006), at number 17 on the list. He missed £34,000.

indeed...but due to the mysterious player 14 being totally removed from everywhere, i wasn't aware he won £4800, or what was in his in box...perhaps if you have some info you could pm?

No, i counted the boxes that the banker actually ended up buying, ie, in case of a swap, i would count the amount in the player's NEW box, because after all, that is the amount the banker will be getting, not the amount in the old box.

Once again...i don't have any data for player 14...but yes, Beryl would have been ommited.

Sorry, but I really don't follow that. Surely the amount in the player's NEW box is not the amount the Banker gets, but the amount the player gets?

The 'banker savings' statistic must be calculated by looking at the difference between 'total amount in players boxes' and 'total amount players took home'. And after 100 games, this is what I make those figures...

Total amount in players' (pre-swap) boxes: £2,025,679.42
Total amount players took home: £1,657,545.11
Banker savings: £368,134.31 (a saving of 18.2%)

(Total amount in players' post-swap boxes would sum to £2,018,243.93)

And it's a New Entry at number 2 for Anna in the 'worst' deal list above.

AaronB wrote:

Wow, those statistics are fascinating. Just the sort of thing a mathematician like me loves! Thanks very much jonny and MisterAl

How have you calculated this? If we're counting the original box that the player had (before any swap), then I think that the total amount the players have had in their boxes so far is £1,775,679.42

No, i counted the boxes that the banker actually ended up buying, ie, in case of a swap, i would count the amount in the player's NEW box, because after all, that is the amount the banker will be getting, not the amount in the old box.

(Total amount in players' post-swap boxes would sum to £2,018,243.93)

the amount in the new box is what the player gets, but it's also what the banker 'gets' because the banker's earnings are calculated by the amounts in the boxes that he buys. when a player opens a box and wins the amount inside, the banker is essentially just buying it off them for however much it's worth, and not any more or any less.

so the amount the banker has made is simply the total of the boxes that the player ended up selling or opening. this leads to profit for the banker due to several people who have given away thousands of pounds because they have sold their box for a figure less than the box contents (which is what the box is worth to the banker).

i dont know if i explained that well, but i gave it a shot

and i'd be interested to know which players should have dealt after the first round or second round, MisterAl :-D

...which is exactly the sum total of what was in the players' boxes, yes? (I now understand the terminology you're using. Thanks for explaining.)

Kai (Show 35, 9 December 2005) was offered a very generous £9000 after Round 1, which was never bettered. (He actually went home with £7500.)

Raj (Show 26, 29 November 2005) had an offer of £7200 after Round 2 before his luck turned horribly and he went home with 10p.

Chris (Show 89, 13 February 2006) had awful luck -- his peak offer of just £4400 appeared after Round 2. He took home £1500.

yep exactly.

and thanks - poor kai. what's ironic is that if he had dealt at the £9k then he would probably be hated for giving a boring game, but wouldve been better off!
