British hope is near-enough lost in the women's singles in the Australian Open as Keothavong has been knocked out in the first round along with two of the other three British entries...the one remaining (name I need to get) I think is still in...but Jankovic and Ivanovic are through to the second round.

In the men's draw, it's full steam ahead for Federer, Djokovic, Ferrer, Roddick and Del Potro who are all in the second round now...and Marat Safin has also progressed.

Murray's first round match kicks off at midnight our time.

Elena Baltacha is the name I think you are looking who is still in the womens singles....she won her 1st game and plays Mauresmo who won this in 2006 (i think) in round 2

Andy Murray won his first match winning the first set 6-2 and 3-1 up in the 2nd set before his opponent retired injured.

He also ended up retiring altogether! So what a final match for him! :)

Rafael Nadal has soared through to the second round, as has James Blake...but Hewitt is out! Last year's beaten finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is also through...

The first big casualty of the men's draw is David Nalbandian - he's out! Federer and Safin are in the third round where they will meet each other! Djokovic has also progressed, as has Ivanovic and Jankovic in the women's draw...

Andy Murrays 2nd round game is tomorrow morning. Dont know the exact time but is about 9am/10am so will be night time in Australia so shouldn't be the intense heat there was in his first game.

Other men's seeds through are Del Potro and Roddick among others...there was a moment in Federer's match today which has literally been shown on repeat all day on Sky Sports News as it was simple brilliance!

Djokovic, Del Potro, Blake, Federer and Roddick are now in the last 16 of the men's draw.

Jankovic has also made the fourth round in the ladies draw, but Ivanovic is out! :(

Marat Safin has hinted that his defeat against Federer may have been his last match...he's had a brilliant career for sure!

Halfway through the fourth round, and Federer, Del Potro, Djokovic and Roddick are so far in the quarter-finals. Federer will face Del Potro, while Roddick will face Djokovic.

Murray tomorrow morning - but he's admitted today he's been feeling the stress (severe headaches)...but the biggest shock of the day was in the ladies draw as top seed Jelena Jankovic was dumped out! Serena Williams remains the highest seeded player in the tournament now...

Fernando Verdasco ended Andy Murray's dreams this morning, beating him in a five-set thriller

Nadal has joined the others in the quarter-finals; just the Blake-Tsonga match left...

Serena Williams has made it into the quarter-finals in the women's draw.

Starting off as joint favourite maybe was too much pressure for Andy. :?

The good news is that Andy is getting better and better, and not at his peak yet.

With Tsonga completing the quarter-final line-up, this is how they line up for both the men's and women's draws:

Men's singles:

Rafael Nadal (1) v Gilles Simon (6)
Fernando Verdasco (14) v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (5)
Andy Roddick (7) v Novak Djokovic (3)
Juan Martin Del Potro (8) v Roger Federer (2)

Women's singles:

Marion Bartoli (16) v Vera Zvonareva (7)
Dinara Safina (3) v Jelena Dokic
Carla Suarez Navarro v Elena Dementieva (4)
Svetlana Kuznetsova (8) v Serena Williams (2)

Seeing that draw really makes Murray's defeat look bad; had he won, all top 8 seeds would have made up the last eight!

Without a shadow of doubt, the match to watch is Roddick v Djokovic! Here's hoping A-Rod finally shows his top form and knocks out the defending champion!

God I wish I'd put a bet on it; Djokovic retired exhausted in the fourth set against Roddick! The defending champion is out! A-Rod is in the semi-finals, and will face Federer, who thrashed Del Potro 6-3 6-0 6-0!

Zvonareva has made the semi-finals of the women's tournament also, at present...and Dokic's amazing run has finally been stopped by Safina!

At least Murray will be proud; Verdasco (his conqueror) will face Nadal in the semi-final after beating last year's runner up Tsonga - Nadal has just beaten Simon in straight sets!

And Serena Williams made sure the women's semi-finals weren't made up of four Russians!

Here is the full semi-final draw:

Men's singles:

Rafael Nadal (1) v Fernando Verdasco (14)
Andy Roddick (7) v Roger Federer (2)

Women's singles:

Vera Zvonareva (7) v Dinara Safina (3)
Elena Dementieva (4) v Serena Williams (2)

Again, A-Rod's match is the one to watch for me...Roddick hasn't beaten Federer in a long time, yet he has been on good form lately! I guess I'm just desperate to not see another Nadal v Federer final...

The women's singles final has been set up:

Dinara Safina (3) v Serena Williams (2)

And Roger Federer is now waiting for Rafael Nadal or Fernando Verdasco in the men's final after beating Andy Roddick!

And it's worth noting, Britain's hottest tennis prospect Laura Robson is in the semi-finals of the girls draw; she's already won Wimbledon last year, so winning in the country she was born in would be amazing!
