If anyone really cares about the Nascar Busch Line-up for the Texas Motor Speedway race here it is!

Mark Martin already holds the record for most pole positions in the NASCAR Busch series, and tonight he extended his tally to thirty.

Martin after dominated qualifying for Saturday's O'Reilly Challenge at the Texas Motor Speedway, and he ended up as the only driver to lap over 192mph, with fellow 'Buschwacker' Kyle Busch taking the second spot.

Juan Pablo Montoya, in his second Busch appearance, qualified tenth - probably better than he expected after a difficult time throughout practice.

Montoya, who last week finished eleventh in his debut NASCAR race at Memphis, admitted he didn't even think he'd qualify today.

"To be honest, it was a bit of a surprise, as I struggled all day with the handling of the car," the Colombian said, adding: "After practice, the goal was just to make it on the grid."

Another former open-wheel debutant Max Papis qualified 32nd. This is Papis's first oval race, after he finished fourteenth in his first NASCAR race on the street course at Watkins Glenn in August.

2006 Busch champion Kevin Harvick lines up on the second row, in fourth place.

Nice photos.

I'm a pretty big fan of motorsport also. It's a shame Montoya left F1 though as he was pretty entertaining driver I found.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella believes he will be fighting for the drivers' world title next year despite his disappointing 2006 season.

The Roman was overshadowed by Renault teammate Fernando Alonso for the second year in a row, the Spaniard going on to take his second consecutive title after seven race wins.

Fisichella only managed to win once on his way to fourth place in the standings, 60 points behind Alonso, who will drive for McLaren in 2007.

Fisichella will stay at Renault next season and he reckons he, along with Alonso and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, will be one of the main protagonists.

"I'm confident to win the world championship;
I will be a main player together with Raikkonen and Alonso," Fisichella was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday.

"I'm aware that for next year I have at my disposal a great car and a great team with whom I've already worked for two years, so I know them well."

The Italian driver will be partnered by rookie Heikki Kovalainen next season.

Bits in Orange Rubbish ;)

That's the silliest thing I've heard today

Alonso may have a excellent chance but it all depends on what the car will be like.

Todays other news from www.autosport.com

Quote:

Tony Stewart showed why he is a two-time Nextel Cup champion with a dominant performance at Texas Motor Speedway.

Stewart led over three-quarters of the race and fought off late-race challenges from Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson to take the win, following on from last week's win at Atlanta.

The win virtually guarantees him eleventh place in the standings, 'best of the rest' behind the ten drivers in the Chase for the Championship.

A late charge by Jimmie Johnson saw him take second place, which moved him back into the points lead after Matt Kenseth had an up and down night to finish 12th.

Kevin Harvick finished third ahead of Kyle Busch, with Clint Bowyer completing the top five. Dale Earnhardt finished sixth despite hitting the wall earlier in the race. Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin also both scored top ten finishes.

Johnson now leads the standing by 17 points ahead of Kenseth with just two race remaining. Earnhardt Jr is 78 points behind Johnson, while Hamlin is just two points behind Earnhardt Jr.

Harvick sits a further 25 points back while Jeff Gordon is 157 points behind Johnson in sixth.

Jeff Burton, who led the title chase just three races ago, is 184 points behind leader Johnson after a flat tyre sent him into the wall and all but ended his title hopes.

Kasey Kahne fell to tenth in the Chase after he retired from second place in sight of the chequered flag when his engine failed.

Valentino Rossi is being tipped to put on a strong performance when he competes in Rally New Zealand later this month.

Last week the Italian had a taste of the 2005 Subaru Impreza he will use for the event, and he has received positive feedback from those that were present at the test in Wales.

His co-driver Carlo Cassina is expecting Rossi to perform well, especially on the first day of the event when he has a favourable position on the road.

"On the first day we'll be close to the top cars without problems," he was quoted as saying in Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"But in the following two days, when the starting order is set by reverting the overall classification, we'll be among the ones who will have to sweep the road for the others.

"That's one extra difficulty for Valentino, who obviously still has very limited experience."

Rossi went to Wales after testing the new MotoGP bike that he will race next year for Yamaha at Valencia.

Pirelli's Terenzio Testoni was quoted as saying that he expects the 27-year-old to be sensible as he tackles the event for the first time.

"Valentino is an intelligent guy," he said. "He knows New Zealand is completely different from the Monza Rally and Bologna Motor Show rally he has done in the past , so he'll be able to resist the temptation of trying too hard."

According to reports, Rossi decided to pay for his entry in the event rather than be part of the works Subaru team, so that he would not have any sponsor commitments.

He is also expected to test a Mercedes DTM car later this week.

Former Champ Car driver Ryan Hunter-Reay will take part in the rookie sessions for Team USA in Beijing this weekend.

The 25-year-old will get his first taste of an A1GP car around the new street track during the Friday sessions, while regular driver Phil Giebler will continue to race for the team.

Hunter-Reay has been in discussions with the team since the A1GP round at Laguna Seca last March.

Team boss Rick Weidinger said: "Ryan is a very good and experienced driver, and we are anxious to get him in the Team USA car to see how comfortable he is and what he thinks of A1GP."

The team are hoping that Hunter-Reay's Champ Car experience will also help them on the temporary circuit. In 2003, he took his maiden Champ Car victory around the streets of Surfers Paradise as a rookie in the series.

"Street tracks usually take a long time to rubber in, so the cars will slide a lot at first," said Weidinger. "It is critically important to have an experienced driver who can handle the situation.

"This is going to be a challenging track, so Ryan's feedback is going to be critical."

NASCAR officials are investigating a post-race confrontation between Kevin Harvick and a member of Scott Riggs' crew.

Riggs crashed out of the race in Texas while battling Harvick towards the front of the field in the final 10 laps. However, the Busch Series champion insisted that no contact was made until Riggs had already started to spin.

Harvick was then confronted by members of Riggs' team after the race, and one of them shoved him to the ground, which also knocked over his wife and a NASCAR official.

The official was injured in the incident, and Harvick's wife twisted her ankle.

"Those guys decided they wanted to take matters into their own hands and trip my wife in front of their pit box," said Harvick. "That is a little bit unnecessary so we're not too happy about that."

Mike Dillon, director of team operations for Richard Childress Racing, said: "Kevin, his wife and myself were walking back to the garage and unfortunately we crossed paths with the number 10 crew.

"Then one of their guys shoved Kevin hard enough to knock him and his wife down."

Riggs' crew chief Rodney Childers didn't see the incident, as he was dealing with their heavily damaged car.

"There is always a lot of sides to a story and I don't really know the truth yet," he said. "NASCAR are talking to their officials, they are going to look at everything and give me a call.

"We had a great car in the race, and we were hoping to have a shot at our first win."

Graham Rahal has decided not to compete in any more A1GP events as he wants to concentrate on Champ Car commitments over the winter.

The 17-year-old raced for Lebanon in a handful of events last season, and then competed in the last round at Brno.

"I'm disappointed to withdraw from A1GP but I wish all the best to the entire Lebanon team," he said.

Rahal hasn't confirmed a deal for next year, but he is expecting to have a busy winter with testing commitments.

"I'm hoping I'll be driving a Champ Car before too long, but I'll have to wait a few more weeks," he added.

Rahal finished as runner-up in the Champ Car Atlantic series this year, and has already had a test with reigning champions Newman/Haas.

Rickard Rydell believes that four drivers have a realistic chance of winning the World Touring Car Championship in the season finale.

Nine drivers still have a mathematical chance of taking the title at Macau, but the Swede is predicting that two SEATs and two BMWs will be the main contenders.

"Realistically, I think the fight will be between myself, Gabriele (Tarquini) Andy Priaulx and Dirk Muller," said Rydell.

The 1998 British Touring Car champion didn't mention two of the top three drivers in the standings though, including championship leader Augusto Farfus.

The Alfa Romeo driver will carry 80 kilograms of success ballast in the season finale, while third-placed Jorg Muller will carry 75 kilograms.

Reigning champion Priaulx is just a point behind Farfus with just 45 kilograms of ballast, which is the same as Tarquini. Rydell and his other tip Dirk Muller will only carry 35 kilograms.

Rydell admitted that the nature of the Macau street track means that any of the nine drivers could become contenders over the course of the event, which is less than two weeks away.

"Macau is almost impossible to predict," he said, "so if any of the other drivers wins race one then it's all still open."

The SEAT driver is confident of his own chances, and believes that with less bad luck he could have been closer to the top of the championship than his current six-point deficit.

"I've had the speed all season - three pole positions confirms that – but if you think that I couldn't start the first race at Brno and I had a 10 place penalty in Mexico, I could have been higher in the points."

Buddy Rice and David Martinez were both happy after their first test with Forsythe ahead of their Champ Car debut this weekend.

The pair had some seat time at the MSR Houston circuit in preparation for this weekend's season finale in Mexico.

The test enabled Rice to drive a Champ Car for the first time in six years. His last outing came with Chip Ganassi Racing after winning the Toyota Atlantic title in 2000.

"I'm very glad that we were able to get out there and get some laps under our belt before we get to Mexico," said the 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner.

"It's a big benefit and it will definitely help our performance during the race. I feel really good."

Rice has made a few road course starts over the past two years in the IndyCar Series, but he has had very limited time to learn the different type of car.

"Getting used to the turbo lag takes a while and the brakes work extremely well, but after only a few laps I was comfortable," he said.

"Everything went smooth, now we just have to get to Mexico and get back on track so we can keep gaining speed."

Martinez finished sixth in this year's Atlantic series, and he had his first ever taste of Champ Car machinery at the same test.

"We took it easy at first and gradually got faster," he said. "We did a lot of different things to prepare me for a full race weekend, and I'm feeling very relaxed after this test.

"It's never easy to come into a series like this, but now I have a better idea of what to expect and that's going to be a big help."

Quote:
Series boss Alan Gow has confirmed that he will remain in charge of the British Touring Car Championship for another four years.

The Australian's contract was set to expire at the end of this year, but he will stay at the helm until 2010.

Gow was in charge of the series during its heyday in the late 1990s, and returned during the middle of 2003.

In the past two years the number of drivers entering the series has boomed, and more than 30,000 people attended the season finale at Silverstone this year.

Gow said: "In the world of four-wheel motor racing the BTCC is the biggest in the UK. We simply dwarf all other motor sport in this country.

"In TV audiences, we are second only to Formula One and in spectator numbers it's by far the largest in the UK.

"We are the biggest and best show in town. No other series in this country can offer the profile, spectacle and sheer audience numbers that we do."

Nothing major today then :-D

Antonio Pizzonia was comfortably the fastest driver on the first day of GP2 testing at Jerez on Monday.

The Brazilian's best lap was more than seven tenths of a second faster than his nearest challenger, as he blitzed the field in the afternoon.

Franck Perera followed up his impressive performance at Paul Ricard last week by setting the second fastest time for Durango, while Campos also showed well again with Giorgio Pantano third quickest.

Pizzonia said: "It was good today. We were looking good this morning but I had fast laps ruined by a red flag and traffic.

"We did some short runs in the afternoon, and on new tyres it was good."

Despite his Formula One and Champ Car experience, the Brazilian is a GP2 rookie, and he hasn't decided on his plans for 2007 yet.

"At the moment I don't know what I'm doing next year, but it's going to be a difficult decision. There is a possibility to race here, but on the other hand there is Champ Car.

"It will be a difficult decision, but whatever I do I want to be in a position to win races."

After being outshone by his former British F3 rival Bruno Senna last week, Mike Conway had a much better day as he worked with iSport for the first time, and was fourth quickest.

Senna was driving for reigning champions ART, as the French squad returned after missing the last test. However, the Brazilian was only 17th fastest, while Ernesto Viso was 12th for the team despite his previous GP2 experience.

World Series by Renault front-runner Pastor Maldonado was fastest in the morning session, but he dropped to ninth by the end of the day.
