A fantastic performance from England, particularly Strauss!

Despite such torrid fielding, England should have won the match but it ended up still being a brilliant tie!

A bit on the harsh side but, in a way, he's right.

India lost their last seven wickets for just 33 runs, and their last in rather comical fashion - Zaheer and Patel hadn't even completed their first run when they decided on a suicidal second.

The dismissals of Strauss and Bell, meanwhile, triggered a slide from 281-2 to 305-7, and England went from needing 67 off 60 balls (run rate 6.7 per over) to 29 off 12 (run rate 14.5 per over). Why do they always get it wrong as regards their batting powerplay?!

So, in all fairness, a tie was probably the right result in the end.

What a performance by Ireland!!!

Set 328 to win, and in real trouble with half the team out for 111, largely thanks to Swann - when, out of nowhere, Kevin O'Brien goes and thrashes the record for the fastest World Cup century, with brilliant assistance from Cusack and Mooney.

Surely Test cricket for the men in green can't be too far off now - while the knives are out for Strauss and co once again. Three group stage eliminations in four WCs doesn't bear thinking about, does it?

Ireland ALWAYS do brilliant in the World Cups! Even better, half their team don't even play at club level haha!

Well England are doing everything they can to avoid that, RMF! They've beaten South Africa in quite some style this morning...a rather small total yet with three wickets in four balls they turned the match around and skittled the rest out easy pickings!

Too bad it looks like Ireland won't be so lucky...only posting 207 against India. Game over already I think...

Yep, the Proteas choke once again - losing their last seven wickets for 41 runs...

As Strauss said, England like to keep people interested.

Meanwhile, Ireland didn't disgrace themselves at all against the Indians, who'll have had Yuvraj Singh to thank for his unbeaten half-century and five wickets.

India were either sloppy, overconfident or simply not bothered today! It actually started getting interesting late on until one of the later batsmen scored two sixes in three balls!

But yes, Yuvraj Singh is the first person in a World Cup to score a half-century AND claim a 5-wicket haul! New records set left, right and centre in this World Cup!

Wanted to talk about New Zealand v Pakistan before the site went down...

Anyway, when the Kiwis found themselves at 210-6 after 46 overs, not even they could have expected that they'd finish on 302-7...

Those last four overs yielded 28, 15, 30 and 19 runs respectively, and included no less than nine sixes - six by birthday boy Ross Taylor, who took his score from 76 to 131 in the process, and three by Jacob Oram.

Their stand of 85 came off just 22 deliveries - a run-rate of just under four a ball! (Although there were quite a few wides sent down by the shell-shocked Pakistan bowlers.) And had Oram not been caught on the boundary attempting another six, they could very well have achieved one of the fastest-ever century partnerships in ODIs, if not the fastest ever...

Needless to say, Pakistan's confidence was shattered to such an extent that they crashed to 23-4, and never really recovered...

The knives are out for Strauss and his men once more as they lose a thriller against Bangladesh...

Trott and Morgan hit 67 and 63 respectively, but no other batsman got past 18 - and having Swann at #7 and Colly at #8 was a very peculiar move.

The Tigers looked to be cruising at 155-3, thanks to Imrul Kayes' steady 60 and some shocking bowling (23 wides in all), but his run-out triggered a slide to 169-8, and you might have thought then that England were about to pull off another unexpected win.

But Mahmudullah and Shafiul Islam never gave up hope...


Had England indeed won this, they would have been in the quarter-finals. Instead, they pretty much have to beat the in-form West Indies in their final game - and even then they could still be eliminated on net run-rate...

We gotta hope...that said, my attention will be on us winning (hopefully) the Six Nations match this weekend

More bad news for England as India blow it against South Africa...

They looked on course for a huge total thanks to Tendulkar's 99th international ton, and half-centuries from Sehwag and Gambhir - but then lost their last nine wickets for just 29 runs...

And this time, the Proteas didn't choke as fifties from Kallis, Amla and de Villiers, plus some timely knocks from Duminy, Botha and Robin Peterson, saw them home with two balls to spare.

The funny thing is, though, England could still go through even if they lose against the Windies. However, they would need Bangladesh to lose both their remaining games - one of which is against the Netherlands, who have been going backwards since narrowly losing against Strauss and co...

That was a remarkable collapse and ultimately cost them this game, but from their point of view it won't stop them qualifying for the QF. You do feel that England need to win that game against the West Indies. If they lost it, and still managed to make it through to the QF they wouldn't exactly have a lot of momentum and confidence. That said, to get 3 points out of 4 against the two favourites shows that they could still surprise everyone!

They need to drop Anderson and Collingwood and make way for Tremlett and Luke Wright imo

As expected, Bangladesh beat the Dutch - meaning that England will be out for sure if they lose to the Windies...

Come on, back the boys! We never fail to deliver the goods (scuse the pun!) when we need to!

England are somehow still in this World Cup!

When the Windies were 222-6, with plenty of balls to spare and Sarwan and Andre Russell on a stand of 72, who expected that they'd go on to lose those last four wickets for just three runs?!

It was certainly a match that kept going back and forth...

Strauss, Prior and Trott got England off to a breezy start - but the boundaries dried up after their dismissals, and the only other significant innings came from the much-criticised Luke Wright.

Then WI off to a flyer of their own, thanks to Gayle and Sammy, before they too started finding runs hard to come by. It's very rare that you get three consecutive maidens in an ODI...

And things got even better for England when danger man Pollard went - before Sarwan and Russell took their team to the brink of victory...

Some might say victory for Strauss and co was justice, as Russell was contentiously given not out when Trott caught him right on the boundary.

Whatever, England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and are still in this tournament.

And they probably will get that last quarter-final place - they just need South Africa to beat Bangladesh, which looks pretty likely, given the form the Proteas have been in since that six-run defeat.

But England sure do like living dangerously, don't they? Three narrow wins, a tie, and two unexpected narrow defeats...

Well it's done the trick - South Africa beat Bangladesh, meaning we've qualified for the quarter-finals!

Yep, Bangladesh bowled out for under 100 for the second time in this tournament...

Meanwhile, Australia's 34-match unbeaten run in World Cups came to an end in a rather ill-tempered affair against Pakistan.

They had it coming, really - since they haven't really played brilliantly thus far. Indeed, they acheived their lowest WC innings since 1992 in this match - and they also allowed Kenya to put up a very respectable score...

And so to the last first-round match: India v West Indies.

India looked set for a huge total at 218-3, Yuvraj Singh making his first World Cup century and Virat Kohli providing able assistance.

And then, not for the first time in this WC, they collapsed - losing their last seven wickets for 50 runs.

The Windies were well on course when they reached 154-2, Devon Smith hitting 81 - and then they too collapsed, not for the first time in this WC. And just like against England, it was dramatic - the last eight wickets falling for just 34 runs in 13 overs.

Makes Strauss and co even more worthy of their quarter-final place IMHO.
