We won't win it. We often stuff it up at the crucial stage. I hope Germany don't win it either.

We are second favorites though, behind Brazil [who we have never beaten competitively] and the ONLY time England could beat, I mean play, Germany is in the final itself.

Thought we were due to possibly meet the Germans in the last 16?

Anyway, we're certainly no longer second favourites after this week's events. I'm sure the prospect of facing Crouch and Defoe will scare the crap out of the world's best defences...

Totally agree. You've gotta be honest, England have been crap for a long time; no matter how many fantastic individual players we have, we just don't play as a team. :x

I will repeat myself, England will not win the World Cup. End of. I admire your optimism but it is completely unfounded given we will almost certainly be without Rooney and we don't have many top players in our squad.

It's the taking part that counts..... we may not win but then again we might. It's enjoying the ride while you're on it that counts for me!

You don't win trophies just because of one player so just because Rooney's injured doesn't mean we automically won't win.

Owen, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard... I could go on... no, not many top players there at all

It's not, England won't win it's that you don't want England to win isnt it greeny? Let me guess, you're an immigrant from eastern Europe?

I would say England have an average to quite good chance of winning the world cup. Injured Rooney doesn't mean everything but it would help if he were participating.

No, I'm half English, a quarter Scottish and a quarter Welsh (resulting in a peculiar accent). I want England to do well, but I can't see them beating teams like Brazil or France.

Sorry to say it but I don't think we'll perform that well in Germany. The loss of Rooney is critical and Owen isn't going to have much match practice. The thought of Peter Crouch up front sends shivers down my spine.
The impending departure of Sven isn't going to help either. I reckon we'll get 2nd round, but no further. Typical same old England then!!

Peter Crouch adds a new dimension to the England squad due to his height and heading ability. I dont understand why a lot of poeple have an isssue with him to be honest as I think he's a decent player.

If he was such a bad player, why would he be one of the most likely strikers to make it to Germany? With or without Rooney.

Yes - a bad dimension! Crouch's first touch is awful, he can't jump to head the ball despite being tall and is only being taken because he is a different sort of striker. Theres no way we can win with him starting in place of Rooney. If I'm proved wrong, I'll be as happy as anyone, but without Rooney I can't see us doing well, I'm afraid.
