There we do agree. Sports that requires 'judging' are susceptible to errors, favouritism and downright cheating. And as for anything with 'artistic impression' - don't get me started!

To be honest, gymnastics' main black mark in my opinion is its promotion (intentional or otherwise) of a dangerous body image, but distance running is less obviously guilty of much the same...

I stood next to Dan Robinson (our top male distance runner) at the start of a half marathon last year and was astonished at how emaciated and thin he looked. Arms like twigs. I felt like a tank stood next to him (and I'm only 73kg) and as he roared away from me and into the distance it seems I run like a tank too...

I think that all the Olympic sports have rightfully gained there place at the Olympics... but Synchronised swimming utter tripe...you cant see what they are doing as they're splashing too much. :|

That synchronised swimming...gah! Though those Spanish girls looked good before I switched off!

That Ukraine lady tested positive on a drugs test as well - looks like she's gonna be stripped of her silver medal from the other day in the long jump.

Just been reading on Sky Sports - their boxing specialist says if bronze is all GB can get in Beijing then that would be classed as a failure.

I actually agree - we got silver in Athens, and gold in Sydney. We have three boxers left, guaranteed two medals, but one of them needs to be a silver at least!

Irony given that's what Michael Johnson himself said about Bolt - apparently he listened and took 'Michael who?' in another way!!

Utterly insane.

And Davey, it was heptathlon. That's going to suck for Kelly Sotherton - she's now in fourth and missing out on a medal by about 40 points!

Disappointment there!

But at least USA didn't qualify!

EDIT: Russia now only have one gold less than us - one more gold for them and they take third place in the medal table. :?

Well we went in expected to finish 8th or 9th so going from 3rd to 4th shouldnt be too much of a problem overall... and we're on course for a gold in the triple jump at the mo as well!

Nope - Phillips Idowu had to settle for silver!

A big shock that, seeing as he was odds-on favourite for gold :?

It was never a gimme in my opinion. Although he was unbeaten this season the competition have been very close. Unfortunately he has a history of not performing on the big occassions so I wasn't too hopeful of a gold. That said he did jump his season's best but was beaten by a better jump on the day.

So overall I think he can hold his head up high and an Olympic silver medal is still a fantastic achievement.

A silver in the modern pentathlon, more disappointment in the boxing, and Usain Bolt smashes a THIRD world record to complete a hat-trick of impressive gold medals!

These Olympics have been superb and are compulsive TV viewing/radio listening for me.

There's the massive Team GB success for a start, relatively few drug scandals (the equestrian cheats are a disgrace), pre-games worries like pollution etc. havent really materialised, most of the sports, including new events like BMX and open water swimming, have been extremely exciting, and everything seems to have been very well organised by the Chinese.

I have no doubt that Team GB will perform as well (or perhaps even better) in the London 2012 medal table, but I cannot believe that we will be able to organise the games so well, for a start I will be relieved if everything gets built in time, remember the new Wembley.

No surprises to hear Argentina retain the gold medal in the Men's Football.

We've picked up another bronze also.

Looks like we'll probably finish fourth in the medals table too, Russia have one more gold than us and several more medals than we have. I doubt we'll pick up two more golds now. But come on - fourth is amazing!
