I watched the replays of this and as people commented, he appeared to stop fully sprinting about 5 or 10 metres before the line and still manage to break the record! It was a great race, as predicted.

Also a great day for British Sport. Not a bad tally of medals for one day.

WE'RE THIRD IN THE MEDAL TABLE!

To only trail China and USA who have nearly double the number of athletes at the Games than we do, that is remarkable.

And more golds on the way too! :D

We really are Great Britain this year. ;)

It's looking very good though considering we're hosting it next.

I am actually amazed at how many medals we've won, especially the number of gold. We are actually OK at something!

I was on holiday earlier in the decade when it was decided Beijing would host this year's Olympics, and I remember clearly them saying this was going to be the best Olympic Games yet.

I can't disagree - it's definitely better than Sydney and Athens that's for sure! Weather-wise maybe not but heyho!

Something that really made me laugh and I have to post it here: I was reading some old Bothers Bar commentarries and the LTL winner of £1,000 in Buddy's game was called "Michael Phelps"! He gets 8 golds and still feels the need to get a free £1,000 from Endemol! Good on him! :D

I agree.

The Danish should stick to making pastries. :P

Biggest gold haul for 88 years!!!

Whats really funny though is that people are complaining were winning too many medals and everything's too elitist...Some people are never happy...

It's great we're doing so well for a change. I unfortunately haven't been able to see any of the televised coverage of the games, which is a shame as I'd have enjoyed watching some of the events. It's nice to see some of the "minority" sports such as rowing, cycling and sailing getting more coverage than usual, although as I heard someone say on the radio - we've won most of the medals in sports where you sit down whilst doing them. :P

Yet another gold sitting down...in the sailing!

And later on, the cycling really heats up - could easily be seeing more gold there!

We're guaranteed another gold in the sprint. The final is between Hoy and Kenny, and Pendleton is also in the final of the womens' sprint.

I think it's best we're tallying up all the golds we can now, as we never do overwhelmingly well in the track events do we?
