Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti, former President of Iraq, was hanged at approximately 6:00 AM this morning for crimes against humanity following his trial for the killing of 148 Shias in the town of Dujail in 1982. His last word was a sarcastic "Muqtada," and then he was hanged. The execution took place at the secure facility "Camp Justice" in northern Baghdad, a security base once used by Saddam. Contrary to initial reports, Saddam was executed alone, and not at the same time as his co-defendants Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, who will be executed after the Eid ul-Adha holiday. Video of his final minutes have been released in the last half-hour.

Like Tom Hanks and his football on that island in 'Cast Away', it looks like it's just me and the bots here now. But that's alright, we're having a grand old time. Aren't we, Wilson? WILSOOOON?!

A few of us who were once part of the furniture, once stalwarts of the grand and extravagant, exuberant and thriving forum, have receded back into the walls, still faintly visible, still here as poignant, reminding relics of an era gone by; but most of us have vanished, forever immersed in the mists of time.

Muqtada is a person.

Four guards, who were apparently followers of Muqtada Sadr, the militant Shiite cleric whose father was killed by Hussein, cried out "Muqtada Sadr!".
Saddam scoffed and replied with a sarcastic "Muqtada". Then he was hanged.

I'm sure it will be on YouTube within the hour.

Atleast he had a means of execution where he would have suffered!

No I think you die pretty quickly when your hanged, by being dropped, as it breaks your neck!

I remember learning how a hanging works in History (to do with the hangings after the second world war). They take your weight and other details and work out how they can kill you in the quickest amount of time. Once you drop most of the time its only about 1-5 seconds before your dead.

I don't think it's on youtube yet, but I DO have a valid link of the complete thing, poor quality footage taken from a mobile phone video camera. It's a bit sick though, and I don't think Kestral would approve of me posting it on here. It's not something I approve of anyway, I just followed the link just to see if the poster was lying or not. Honest.

I find watching any coverage of it sickening no matter how much the man has done. It does not alter how I hate to watch real death.
