What memories, if any, do people have of White Christmases? We had one two years ago here in Gloucester, and I remember a few as a child which were a lot of fun. Does it really matter if it snows or not? Some people don't like them because of travelling commitments. One bookmaker is offering 9-2 for a White Christmas this year, specifically for snow to fall on the London weather centre roof this Christmas Day, 25th December 2006, and 1-8 against. That seems very ungenerous odds to me. You normally get anything from 7-1 to 10-1 for a White Christmas. :?

Yeah we had that very same white christmas two years ago, we also had one about 10 years ago, according to some reports though we are apperantly going to be struck by blizzards after new year :o

(Although other reports suggest it will be the warmest winter on record)

Who knows??????

The last White Christmas in London was 1976.

So no. We Londoners will probably never see one again...but I would so love to be proved wrong.

I can't remember the last time it snowed on Christmas Day in Essex! In fact, has it done since I was born in 1987? :? :| I'll have to ask my mum and dad later...

It heavily snowed near Christmas in December 2000 and December 2001, and in January 2003 and January 2004 my school had to close for a day due to the snow! Although, to be honest, I think they shut because they were afraid someone would slip over on the ice and sue them, so they shut for the day - I don't think it was because of the amount of snow!

Just went there and according to them, London, Gloucester and many other parts of the UK have a 45% chance of having a White Christmas this year! :D

I don't remember the last time in snowed on Christmas day, but a few years ago it snow loads around December-January! It was awesome, we still had to go to school but it was probably for me, the best school day ever! The whole field was covered in the stuff, we had snowball fights and made snowmans and everything, ah it brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. :-D

Although, walking home that day wasn't fun, the snow had gone all slushy and the ice was slippy, it took, what usually would be 20 minutes, took about an hour to get home because I was walking with caution. I didn't want to fall and look like an idiot. Then there was a blizzard and there I was with my massive school bag dragging it across the pavement, trying to fight against the wind. :(

I don't want a white christmas, because going to town on the bus is a nightmare, and chavs walk through my culdesack throwing snowballs at everyone's house (And when they do it to my house, it scares the *beep* out of me. One day, I had the window open and a snowball came hurdling through the window and all over the carpet. I contemplated getting my air rifle out, because I nearly had a heart attack.)

And the Vauxhall Nova.... ;)

45% of a White Christmas in the West Midlands and South Wales! However I will be spending Crimbo in Essex, and there is also a 45% chance there!

Will it be a White Christmas?

Not everywhere, no. I doubt it will be in Wales, most of the Midlands, Southern England or the Channel Islands. Most likely in Scotland, Northern England and the far North Midlands (Derbyshire/north Staffordshire spring to mind). It might possibly be a White Christmas in Northern Ireland as well.

Sorry, but no way. I refuse to believe that there's a 45% chance that this year will be the first White Christmas in London in 30 years.

The best snowfall in recent memory I can remember was at the end of January 2003. I remember going on the computer, seeing the top news headline being "Massive snowfalls across the UK!" thinking "Ugh, it always snows everywhere except here", looking out the window...and seeing masses of snow falling down everywhere. I was stunned and absolutely ecstatic at the same time, and it continued snowing right until the night, and despite blazing sunshine the next day, the snow was everywhere for days. Just look at these pictures!

That would be just about right, hardly ever snows here on the south wales coast HOWEVER it did snow for a little while on Christmas Day afternoon last year and it settled.

This year I think it will be lucky Scotland and the East of the country again that gets the bulk of the white stuff
