He was quite old though wasnt he?

He was 61, so if you class that as old. Irwin was only 15 years younger.

Just found this on the Autosport site

Australian motorsport legend Peter Brock has been killed in a rally accident in Western Australia.

The 61 year-old was competing in the TargaWest tarmac rally near Perth, Western Australia with co-driver Mick Hone when his Daytona Coupe left the road and hit a tree. Brock was killed instantly while Hone was injured, and is in a stable condition.

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) have announced they will conduct a full investigation into the incident.

Brock's exploits are legend in Australian motorsport history. Nine victories in the Bathurst 1000 touring car race at Mount Panorama earned him the nickname "King of the Mountain". He also won the 1974, 1978 and 1980 Australian Touring Car Championships.

He retired from full-time motorsport at the end of the 1997 season but has made occasional appearances in motorsport since, including tarmac rallies and racing at Bathurst in V8 Supercar and a GT car.

Brock added a tenth endurance victory at Bathurst when he won the 2003 Bathurst 24 hour event in a Holden Monaro with Greg Murphy, Todd Kelly and Jason Bright.

Brock split with partner Beverley last year following 28 years together. Peter was the father to their children Robert and Alexandra, as well as Beverley's son James, the product of an earlier relationship.
