That is quite weird actually. I'm not entirely sure how it works yet...

I thought there may only be a certain number of options and it's just luck whether you get the one that it's also chosen... but it's worked every time I've tried it.

Let your chosen number's first digit be a, and its second digit be b.

Then the value of your number is 10a + b.

Subtracting the two digits of your number from the number itself will therefore give you (10a + b) - a - b.

Simplifying, that becomes 9a.

Therefore, you'll always end up with a number that's a multiple of 9. (That is, a number in the 9-times-table.) And, referring to the table, all of the multiples of 9 lead to the same gift.

I must admit that I hadn't noticed at first that the numbers on the "prizes" change with each go, and when you look at them, all the multiples of 9 are indeed the same prize.

Although I can't work out how you'd be able to get a wrong result with this actually... surely the only way would be if you calculated the number incorrectly?
