Generally a fan of the horror genre, but more the psychological horror, less guts and gore shown the better. I was a fan of the nasty horror types as a ten year old kid-saw all the nightmare on elm street films by age 11-and some really horrible ones in between! The only film that scared me back then was The Thing. And poltergeist! The Thing i bought for my dad a few years back, but what an amazing film. Incredible.
Just watched the exorcism of emily rose, pretty good too:-)
What's people opinions on scary movies in general?

Not a huge fan of the zombie genre, eeeww-usually! I did absolutely love the recent dawn of the dead, brilliant, and surprisingly well acted by all involved. So was amityville, the recent one, totally crap film, but well acted. Shaun of the dead. Brilliant! :smt023

Definitely The Thing was a real shocker. Have you tried The Fog (the original - although the remake isn't too bad either).

I love Ghost Ship but also own the earlier Deathship which is quite old now and isn't quite as strong as I recall from my youth. Also try Death Line a 70's horror movie based in the London Underground, many years before it's similar recent offering, Creep, which is more guts and gore infested.

Other classics for me are:

Alien Quadrilogy; American Werewolf In London; Black Xmas (the remake); Cabin Fever; Cheerleader Massacre: The Convent; Dark Corners; Deathwatch; Deep Rising; The Descent; Dracula 2001; The Ferryman; Final Destination Trilogy; The Haunting; Hellraiser 1- 4; The Hole; House 1 - 4 (although these are somewhat parodies of horror); House On Haunted Hill; I Know What You Did Last Summer Trilogy; Jaws 1 - 4; Lust For A Vampire; The Mist; Nightmare On Elm Street Series; The Omen Trilogy (original); The Reaping; Resident Evil Trilogy); Return To House On Haunted Hill; Salem's Lot; Scream; Sleepy Hollow; Sorceress 1 & 2; Soul Survivors; Terror Train (looking forward to the semi remake starring Thora Birch); Thirteen Ghosts; Twins Of Evil; Underworld Trilogy; Urban Legend Trilogy; Vampire Lovers; Van Helsing; Virus; Witchboard; Wrong Turn.

And that's just the horror style films!!

Want to see my comedies/thrillers/murder mysteries and other classics??

which omen though, original or remake  the only film i ever watched in my life that resulted in sleepless nights was poltergeist, at age 10, although i had already seen most of the elm street movies (and worse) by the same age! funny how that works, isnt it!

a really good film, which wouldnt fall under the traditional scary movie, is Dead Man's Shoes, genuinely disturbing and quite upsetting, give it a go! :smt023

You'd get on with my brother - he loves all kinds of horror and scary movies: his personal faves are the Nightmare series and the Saw series...I can't stomach the Saw ones at all :(

The scariest film I've seen is Chicken Run. What a chilling tale.

The Saw films are brilliant! But none top my favourite films of all time; The Shining and my ultimate fave, Misery...classics and excellent!

yes, misery is great, the book was even better, and even gorier. The saw films-i saw only two of them on c4 last year, and was expecting them to be much much worse than they actually were...but i'm not a fan of outright gore, not that i've a weak stomach or anything, just feel that real scares can be achieved using more subtle means...the recent spate of japanese horrors, eg ring and the grudge, are usually fantastic (not the remakes though). One of the best was actually south korean, the tale of two sisters. took me a couple of watches to get it clear, and when it is clear, :smt023

wolf creek was pretty good too :D

Read The Entity as one of my first horror novels and was very intrigued by it at a young age. Still contemplating the movie on DVD.

Saw the first two SAW movies and felt they relied too much on gore and shocks rather than the subtler and more mind stimulating films like The Fog.

How about murder mysteries?

Faves include:

The Peter Ustinov Poirot films (sadly only three on DVD, wish the others were available); Clue (a phenomenal comedy based on Cluedo); iRobot (a modern twist to the genre); Murder By Death (a comedic send up of several fictional detectives); Murder On The Orient Express (the Albert Finney version).

Next collection, sci-fi/fantasy.
