2,4,6,30,32,34,36,40,42,44,46,50,52,54,56,60,62,64,66 the next number in the sequence is 2000, why?

i'm sure lots of you will be able to provide the answer but i know someone who took seven months to figure it out

Only took my seven seconds for this one! Random brainwave!

I'll spoiler-box it so I don't ruin it for everyone else:

2000 is the next number to not have an 'e' in the spelt out number.

All odd numbers are obviously out too, from "sixty-seven" to "nine hundred and ninety nine", they all obviously have an 'e' in the word "hundred", or "seventy-", "eighty-" and "ninety-"

Got it...

Strange that all odd numbers, written out, all have an E inside them! :?

So the next number is 2002.

I managed to work out that 1000 must be in the list with no assistance at all, although I couldn't determine whether it was the next number without a little help from that powerful internet thing.

No Google used, Tom - it was another of them team exercises I did on that course back in January (the football club name cryptic clues thing being another of them)

google hadn't been invented when i finally got round to figuring it out, so maybe i'm smarter than you tom22 and i didn't spend the entire 7 months trying to work it out but admittedly it was still a bl**dy long time for something that turned out to be so obvious :bonk:

Haha I'm first to say I'm as smart as two short planks (fairly obvious from most of my posts...). I didnt even really try and work it out, I can never do these sort of puzzles... bung some equations in and I stand slightly more of a chance but I'm starting to think going to uni destroyed every maths brain cell I had. :ponder:
