Basically they are using HUGE magnets frozen at almost absolute zero to fire little things round a circle the size of a really big thing... making them collide with the force of two jumbo jets at 11 knots and then measuring what comes off.

At least we'll have a few seconds before being sucked into space. It'd be interesting to know exactly how one would spend those final seconds. :P

Well... I think it's worth noting that we're all still alive (don't quote me on that!). :ponder:

I have no idea what they've found out but apparently it was successful, so I suppose that's a good thing. Apparently they're now already planning the next accelerator. It's even bigger and more powerful. :eyes:

I hear the theft of telephone cables and other metal is on the rise. It's ridiculous... it leaves people without a landline for up to 2 or 3 weeks, all for some scrap metal. I don't see how they can get stolen in the first place, surely BT lock the entrance hatches where you gain access to the cables?

It's the same for manhole covers too... leaving holes in the road when they're stolen. :| Is there anything that won't get stolen these days? Will it be long before people are intercepting your sewer pipes to steal your sewage for some reason or another?

Down here, people rip off the doors to the metal street lights (but not the concrete ones) and climb them to take off the sensor from the top; I saw someone doing it the other day out of my window, but I didn't shout anything. Same with drain covers. The council must be pulling their hair out, and repairs must cost a fortune!

I think everything that's happening in the country is quite "handy" for the government and what they want.

Okay, so we all know that supermarket prices are soaring. The government will probably slash down the prices of organic/healthy food to, well, "force" us to eat healthy food instead. And they're trying to stop people driving carsd because of the environment, instead, walk instead. See how all this is linking in?

The NHS are really overpaying on "obesity." I mean come on, I'm probably the biggest guy in my school, size wise. Everyone else is proper skinny and it's a bit horrible when you see their ribs popping out when you look up int he changing room. :ponder: Seriously, 25% of the NHS funds go toward healthy eating. That's absolutely incredibly utterly stupid. They're putting more people's lives on hold, like those people who have terminal illnesses, diseases and Cancers. I reckon 25% would go a long long way in the way of research, but instead, they use it to hire Jamie Oliver to go into schools and try to put them off by showing them "what's inside the nuggets" at school. If he came to our school and said that, I reckon someone would say "who gives one? It still tastes good." Seriously though, it's a person's personal choice whether they want to be fit or fat, but we shouldn't have the healthy option biased and blasted in our ears everywhere we go.

And this is what gets me. Bank Of England print the money notes and coins. To stop the credit crunch and the effects etc, why don't the government get off their asses, use some of that money to pay off all our debts and we can resume to what we was like a few years ago, where everything was fine?

Healthy eating though can often prevent many illnesses and diseases. They could spend the money on finding solutions to the problems (e.g. cures for such illnesses) or they could spend the money on encouraging people to eat healthily (so they don't get the illnesses in the first place)... surely the latter makes sense?

Something which could be questioned is that "Big Bang" experiment recently. It cost a huge amount of money and I'm not sure it's worth it (I'm not even sure who paid for it). They might find some amazing discovery of how the world began or something which will be used for many other things such as curing illnesses, but I think it's unlikely.

Are you saying they should just print extra money?

They should print extra money. I saw a bit of that party conference where Brown said he will do "Whatever it takes" to get out of the current situation, so I'd guess it was the simplest way.

That's a good point, however, they said they could be able to do all-sorts, such as cure cancer, and using other methods of defeating illnesses and diseases. It may be a bit expensive, but if this thing works, we're in for a good'un.
