Vista, vista, vista, my my it has had some mixed reviews. I personally consider it XP 1.5 as there isn't that much added apart from a new interface which I can easily get on XP (use theme with norton to STOP any malicous code which tries to be created so not a problem for me). Sure maybe security but XP has a few more years of security updates yet.

The only thing which I see which I can't get on my XP is the media center everything else I can get if I wanted to.

Based on many reviews I have read and from seeing friends top of the range computers running them, I don't think much of it at all.

Reviews I've read have said many things upgrade advisor said were compatible aren't (Micro$oft indeed), also secruity is still a bit unsecure. Finally the use of widgets and desktop search have been rated negative because reviewers say its copied of Mac, also like the interface.

From watching a top of the range laptop run it, it is basically a fast car which has been slowed right down. Plus the explorer system although more simple is not as good.

My overall judgements on these reviews is that it is XP 1.5 and I for one will not be getting it, in fact I am retiring my windows PC's in favour of the Mac. Yes many stuff isn't as compatible but having a XP pc which is much more slower then a pc you had before which wasn't as poweful is very annoying. And this is after a fresh reinstall with no viruses etc what so ever. Plus I tried internet explorer 7 and it crashes 7 or 8 times a day this again a pc with no viruses, malware, spyware etc. (how can you IE7 users live with this sham of a browser I don't know but I would love to have the gift of patience you do)

I maybe wrong in rating Vista because I don't have the OS but just reading reviews rating it poorly and seeing how disgracful Internet Exploder 7 is, I really don't want to waste my money when I can get a Mac Mini with MAC OS X 10.5 (will be when I get it), and have 25% discount because of being a media student. So nearly £350. I just won't use games but just photoshop which reminds me: MY PC CAN'T EVEN RUN PHOTOSHOP WITHOUT CRASHING.

sorry mate, internet never crashes with vista. You may be likening vista to win95 or win98, both made by mr. gates and both very very VERY crap.

And i take it that Vista on its own is crap too, and i know that XP is all you need. But Vista premium is the best of XP, with a little more, and with the vista on its own taken out, and not recycled.So Vista premium, which incase you didnt already know is what i have, is the best of both worlds, plus that little bit extra.

Windows 95 was a good OS for me by this IE7 problem does relate to windows 98 when I upgraded to IE6 back all those years ago.

Another thing from my list of problems is yesterday, after having the pc switched off then restarted an hour later all my passwords went and the backup version lost many to what there was previously. Today my PC fan sounds unusally louder.

Maybe its just the PC manufacterer which I have (Acer) but I wish I built my own PC now last year. But I don't want forking out £100 odd for a OS which may not work the way I would like it to on this current PC. With the experience from using Macs at college I think it might fit into my current everyday life in having one. Plus it will mean I can edit my movies with Final Cut Express at home.

Since I got my new computer on my birthday (Sat 3 Mar), I've been a Windows Vista user. It's not at all bad, so I've obviously got it after all the teething problems!

I have it on Lenny and it's fancy but they seem to hide things which is not good.

I do like the extras that you get on the desktop and have the post it note, the clock, calender and the weather

As for my still XP PC, well graphics cards hate me. My start button is all messy and the sims 2 goes all funny after playing for like 20 minutes.

But a thing which I am really cheesed off about is Micro$ofts plan for their XBOX original games. They would only run on a Vista PC and on XP. I predict the majority of people would stick with XP until they get a new computer like me (the apple plan went out the window due to game addiction) but what gives? I'm also predicting that the majority will stick with XP and upgrade to whatever comes after Vista depending on the timeframe of that release.

Quick question: Is the Vista out currently one with service pack one as I have been told it comes out at a later date?

I am likely to upgrade whenever a service pack one is out or upgrade as soon as poddible if it already is out.

Anyone got ubuntu? I'm downloading it now and will stick on my craptop to have a looky at it. If it's good I will install on my main PC considering everything is legally free and open source. If anyone has ubuntu can you please fill me in on how it goes on a pc.

Well my computer informed me Vista Service Pack 1 was ready to be installed last night. So I drew my breath, said my prayers and clicked "Download" and then install. Just as well I didn't hold my breath during its install as it said it would take "an hour or more", and sure enough the whole thing took about 2 hours to download and install!!

It would appear that some people are not getting the SP1 update yet because their computers are running drivers which aren't compatible with SP1! Typical.

It seems to be running ok for me though (touch wood), although I can't see any major changes. What I have noticed however (and this was mentioned in the long list of improvements) is that I no longer have problems with buttons disappearing and so on - which was apparently a common problem in Vista when the memory usage got to a certain level.
