Noel Edmonds is to host a new TV quiz show pitting adults against children for a £250,000 prize.

Are You Smarter Than A 10-Year-Old? - already a hit format in the US - will be broadcast on Sky One.

The quiz poses questions on science, maths, history and general knowledge that a 10-year-old should not find difficult to answer.

Edmonds said: "This is a fabulous opportunity to host a show that I am confident will be a big success."

He added that he will also continue to present Deal or No Deal on Channel 4.

In the US, the show is called Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? and contestants compete for $1m (£503,000).

It debuted early in 2007 to an audience of more than 26 million.

Sky One director of programming Richard Woolfe said: "Marrying the genius of Noel Edmonds with a fantastic original format will make this the must-see TV show of the autumn.

"Noel has an unrivalled record of delivering family entertainment and we're thrilled that he's so invested in this project."
