Good luck Scott, I'm sure you'll do fine! I studied Shakespeare's The Tempest for A-Level English in Year 12... it's a great play! It gained an A for my coursework in that part of the course, so I'm not complaining! We looked at many different film versions of The Tempest and looked at the many different literary / visual interpretations of the play... is your version identical to Shakespeare's, line for line? Will you be doing the fabulous exit of Prospero at the end?!

It is all in shakespearean but it has been edited down to a 30 minute version. Last lines for me

"The rarer action is in virtue than in vengeance. The sole drift of my purpose doth extend not a frown further"

What great exit do you mean?

The epilogue read by Prospero, after everyone has cleared the stage:

Shakespeare wrote:
EPILOGUE

SPOKEN BY PROSPERO

Now my charms are all o'erthrown,
And what strength I have's mine own,
Which is most faint: now, 'tis true,
I must be here confined by you,
Or sent to Naples. Let me not,
Since I have my dukedom got
And pardon'd the deceiver, dwell
In this bare island by your spell;
But release me from my bands
With the help of your good hands:
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails,
Which was to please. Now I want
Spirits to enforce, art to enchant,
And my ending is despair,
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardon'd be,
Let your indulgence set me free.

In the BBC production of The Tempest from the 1970s, starring Dalziel and Pascoe's Warren Clarke (who plays Caliban! ), the epilogue is done very well - a piece to camera, and the last two lines - "As you from crimes would pardon'd be, / Let your indulgence set me free." - are read in a dramatic way, and our English teacher even made us reinact the whole epilogue in one lesson!
