I still love countdown, but miss Richard Whitely, I was a countdown contestant a few years ago (I came second - didn't win a teapot) :o :o

I don't know why, but as great as it is to see such a youngster as Connor winning the final, it seems scarey that such a shy kid knows such obscure words???

I have this weird vision of him being forced to stay awake all night, reading dictionary's by candlelight, with a huge bloke standing over him, making sure he is learning!! :? :? :?

I wonder if he will keep the £4,000 worth of encyclopaedias?? I'd flog mine and go on holiday somewhere.

He is just astonishing. How can a 14 year old know so many words? Amazing and he thoroughly deserves to win it as he is the best this series.

Agreed, there always seems to be a wonderkid in each series, although none have been quite as wonderful as Connor, not ones I can remember anyway!

I love Countdown but Carol Vorderman is spoiling it for me. Ever since Richard died she has been getting herself more and more involved and for me, it's unncessary. She's now introducing the Dictionary Corner, makes up different games for everyone to play but no-one gets a chance, she takes over with her prepared answers. She also gets alot more camera time than she normally does. How many times does the camera just pan to her and she's standing there smiling down the camera at you?

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but when Richard died it seems that in order for her to remain on the show, she demanded more air time.

Ciara I could not agree more

That time when he got the conundrum in half a second was scary.

Thats just what I mean, Greeny, very scarey having such intelligence at such a young age, and he seems so shy as well. Weird I think.

That was more freaky than genius.

The youngish guy Conor played in the semi final's was very good as well. Shame it wasnt the final with them as I think they were the best in the competition.

Look out for the dictionaries on ebay soon. :)

Agree with that - that game was awesome - it was only the numbers games and the conundrum that separated them.

Yeah - I can't think of anyone who'd come close to toppling him, really. Is anyone old enough to remember one of the first young winners, Alan Saldanha???

I THINK he was about 10 or summat, and he was so small, he had to sit on two cushions, and almost lay on the desk to see the cunundrum.

Here's a sort of Countdown conundrum for you....

Just been to the pub quiz and one of the questions was an anagram. It was BROKEN IN REAR.

It's a TV star and the best I could come up with was..... KARREN O'BRIEN (Quite ingenious, but hopelessly wrong!!!!)

Now I know the answer it's so easy!

PS. To stay vaguely on topic, I'm really enjoying the high calibre of contestants on the current 'Champion of Champions' series.

I would have a go at that conundrum but considering it's twenty past two in the morning I don't think it will be a good idea. :-D

Wouldn't say Conor's a favourite for the Champion of Champions... yet, I don't think he's consistent enough on the numbers. That said, he'll take on anyone at the letters and I would hate to rule him out. He'll be involved in at least one classic match, probably involving him just edging the letters and his opponent striking back on the numbers.

I'd say to beat Conor you'd have to be 10 points ahead by the Conundrum, as he is almost guaranteed to get them very quickly. I know he didn't in the Final but he'd already won by then and perhaps wasn't concentrating.

Well done Avie, spot on! If you'd been on our team we'd have got 13/25 instead of 12/25. The winning team got 21/25 (Reckon they must have cheated!)

Three nines in one selection on Countdown. REACTIONS and CREATIONS I could perhaps see someone getting...

Conor comes up with NARCOTISE!!! The man is a walking dictionary!
