What did everyone think of last night's opener to series 2? I thought it was great!

Don't watch it. Anything with that man in it is bound to be overrated old cack.

I liked the first series, but thought it was rubbish last night. They take it too far to be "shocking"...all that *beep* with Keith Chegwin going on about gay people was stupid. Most of the appeal of this and The Office is that they're realistic, but it's too far-fetched now.

Are you 'aving a laugh?

Is he 'aving a laugh?

He! Is! 'Aving! A! Laugh!

He's 'aving a laugh!

It'd just be so, so cool if Noel appeared on the show. You have to wonder what they'd do with him!

I thought it was brilliant! However, it made me think quite a bit. It seemed as if Ricky Gervais was trying to make some points about comedies that are on TV now and instead of laughing at that last bit, it made me feel quite thoughtful!

I spoke to someone else about whether Extras made them think, and apparently they just found it hilarious! So maybe I'm just looking into it too deeply.

I don't think you are. The scene where he was doing the sitcom, saying his character's 'catchphrase' again and again, to find that the people laughing were all wearing 'am I bovvered?' and 'I'm a lay-dee' t-shirts seemed to be quite a cutting (and well-deserved, in my opinion) attack on the laziness of a lot of modern comedy.

The rest of the episode was a bit hit-and-miss. I loved Cheggers's bad acting, but didn't see the point of his casual racism (unless it was a big set-up for the cheap and obvious dig at Lenny Henry). The Stephen Merchant and Shaun Williamson double act was fantastic, though. I hope we get to see lots more of them throughout the series.

That's exactly what I thought, you summed my thoughts up exactly. Ricky Gervais was definitely trying to make a point but I think he should just concentrate on making me laugh, not making me think too much.

Urgh, I thought it was rubbish...again. First of all, why is it even called "Extras"? He's not an extra anymore, and neither was Maggie this week!

The sitcom was bad, but not really in a funny way; it was just...bad. I thought the bits with the homeless man and moving-house woman were horribly forced and unbelievable, and the weird fans seemed like a rip-off of Jed in Alan Partridge. The only bits I liked were the song, and the bits with Shaun and the agent in the bar.

I agree, no where near as good as the first series....yet. Maybe there's more to come. I like the way there's a story though, and I think it's good how the celebrities are properly written in rather than just added for the sake of it.

I thought tonight's was the best yet! It reminded me a bit of Curb Your Enthusiasm in the way the little misunderstandings and other characters kept coming back to haunt him...although nowhere near as good as Curb, obviously. But still, I really enjoyed it tonight.

I watched this tonight (first time this series) and I thought it was brilliant. It certainly made me laugh out loud a few times!

Loved it when Daniel Radcliffe said that he didn't read books and that "the Ring don't mean a thing" when talking to a married lady!! Absolutely brilliant and very clever writing :-D

I'm sure there were many more moments but they stuck in my mind the most!

Therewas a reference to DOND is this week's episode, the guy from Coldplay said he wanted to get back in time to watch Deal or No Deal! Loads of well-known people in tonight's episode - including Richard Briers, Davina McCall, Stephen Fry, the guy from Coldplay, Ronnie Corbett and Moira Stewart. I'dimagine most of the awards ceremony scenes had been lifted from actual footage of award ceremonies?

It was pretty crap, but worth it for the "I'd rather you added it on, if anything" line. And Moira Stewart being searched at the end.

It was the bit in the dress shop, where he asked for a 1% discount...wasn't particularly hilarious now I think about it, but it made me laugh a lot at the time.
