i think this series has been a bit crap so far, TBH.

there has only been one really good match, that being manchester's improbable win over lincoln oxford.

almost all of the other matches have been too one sided or too low scoring for my liking.

and how come there's no edinburgh or former polytechnic?

I do agree that the series has been rather unspectacular compared to the last two; yet, I've enjoyed it, as even the low scoring matches have been made watchable by Paxo, and his various quips at the players (Julius Caesar was born in 1834?! )

I agree that Edinburgh is a huge absence from this year's contest, this being their first absence since 1998-99! But then, maybe it is time they had a break, and another old Scottish uni got a chance (namely, Aberdeen). And the absence of a former polytechnic is also baffling, though Trinity Laban, who played in the first match, is quite a new institution, so they must be the 'new' institution playing this year.

Whew, that was a good match tonight. King's College Cambridge started off stronger, but Warwick pulled it back, and took the match right to the wire. In the end, King's just sneaked through for the win by 185-160.

Good match tonight between St George's College London and Lancaster University, with the former eventually winning by 230-140 after a sprint in the second half.

The show now takes a break for the festive period, with Christmas University Challenge starting next Monday, and continuing all week.

The regular series resumed tonight, with Magdalen College Oxford vs Manchester. The Mancunians, after that scare against Lincoln College Oxford in the first round, fared much better this time, winning by 220-90. A deserved win, but Magdalen deserved better than that.

Tonight's match between Bristol University and Imperial College London wasn't terribly memorable, but some good quizzing was displayed by both sides. In the end, Imperial had the expected victory, by 245-115.

A tense match tonight, and one of the highest scoring ones for a while. In the end, favourites University College London narrowly won out over underdogs Jesus College Oxford by 215-180.

The second round ended tonight with a huge shock, as underdogs Bangor narrowly defeated hotly fancied Durham by 175-165. Neither side deserved to lose that match; great showing by both sides.

The quarter-finals began tonight, with Manchester vs Imperial. In the end, Manchester won by 185-115 (sorry Skyline). Imperial can still make the semi-finals, provided they win their next match, and then win another afterwards. If Manchester win their next match, they'll be in the semis.

Very much a match of two halves tonight: Bangor dominated UCL early on, but then fell silent as the Londoners surged, and UCL eventually won by 190-125.

A very slow moving match tonight between Pembroke College Cambridge, and St George's London. The Londoners won by 195-105, having had the advantage from the off.

The final preliminary quarter-final tonight, between New College Oxford and King's College Cambridge. Another pretty slow match, which New College dominated throughout, but King's recovered the deficit late on to a respectable 165-125.

Well, after some weeks of steady but not spectacular matches, we got a good high scoring one tonight from Manchester and UCL. The Londoners won by 230-150, and go through to the semis. Manchester will join them if they win their next match.

Tonight's match was an average showing between Imperial College London and Bangor. Bangor won by 210-120, meaning they get one more chance to make the semi-finals. Imperial are out. (Sorry Skyline :( )

Tonight's match between St George's London and New College Oxford began slowly, then picked up late, on with New College coming from behind to win by 160-110. St George's may join them if they win their next match, which they have a reasonable chance of doing so.

I feel absolutely drained after tonight's match! King's College Cambridge dominated Pembroke College Cambridge early on, leading 135-0 at one point. But Pembroke so nearly caught them up, and the match was won by King's by 150-135. Phew!

Best match of the season so far if you ask me! A complete comeback by Pembroke would've made it perfect for me.
