Here are my thoughts on the top 40...

1) Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
Surprised to see this at the top, IIRC it was never a no. 1  a deserving bestseller of 2010 though.

2) Matt Cardle - When We Collide
Probably the first X-factor winner's song i've ever liked... good luck to matt for the future

3) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Amazing)
like this and his new one 'grenade'. One to watch for 2011...

4) Usher ft. will.i.am - OMG
Pretty bored of this now tbh, it's been played everywhere...

5) Owl City - Fireflies
very unusual song which i surprisingly liked at the time...

6) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
good dance song

Still like this, b.o.b is awesome

8) Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls
Good summer tune

Looooooove this still

16) Plan B - She Said

18) Taio Cruz - Dynamite
good tune for clubs, but other than that, meh.

19) Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me

36) K'naan - Wavin' Flag

It's been a brilliant year for music...but yes my big bug bite is why Journey's original version was outsold!!! :x

1) Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
Surprised to see this at number 1, but it was a very good song tbh. Just missed out on my top 10 though.

2) Matt Cardle - When We Collide
No thank you. One of the worst X Factor winner's songs in my opinion.

3) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Amazing)
This song has been my favourite ever since it's been out so I'm glad to see it so high in this list. My number 6. :)

4) Usher ft. will.i.am - OMG
Still got this stuck in my head even after 8-9 months, it's that good. My number one. :D

5) Owl City - Fireflies
This did start to grow on me after a while, but it was pretty bland and not something I'd want to listen to again.

6) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
Shocked to see this so high, but I suppose it was ok.

7) B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams - Airplanes
Can see why this is quite high in the chart tbh, a very catchy song.

8) Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls
Very summery song and it makes you want to sing along to it. My number 3. :)

9) Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano
I can see why this is high cos it's quite a catchy tune, but it wasn't for me sadly.

10) Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts
Didn't like this. One of the worst in the top 40.

11) Tinie Tempah - Pass Out
Great debut single for Tinie Tempah; he went on to do better singles afterwards though.

12) Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (Part II)
Not as good as the original by Jay Z in my opinion, shocked to see it this high.

13) Rihanna - Rude Boy
Very catchy and makes you want to sing along to it.

14) Cee Lo Green - Forget You
Got on my nerves a bit, but very funny at the same time.

15) Lady GaGa ft. Beyonce - Telephone
Loved this, although it's not as good as some of her others.

16) Plan B - She Said
I like singing along to this, shocked to see it in the top 20 though.

17) Iyaz - Replay
Always have to sing along to this when it comes on, very catchy song indeed. My number 2. :)

18) Taio Cruz - Dynamite
Took me a while to get into liking this, but I did and it's catchy.

19) Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me
Very catchy, don't see how people compare this to 'I Gotta Feeling' really. It's its own song and it's just as good. My number 5. :)

20) Jason Derulo - Ridin' Solo
Probably his best single of 2010, very good video as well as tune. My number 10. :)

21) Katy Perry - Firework
Her worst out of the three she brought out in 2010 in my opinion, took me a while to like it. But the tune is memorable.

22) Glee Cast - Don't Stop Believin'
Actually liked this. The original is boring, but they bring life into it somehow and make it a good song.

23) Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars - Billionaire
Not for me sadly, just missing something, don't know what.

24) Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Nowhere near as good as Glee's version really. Very boring to listen to.

25) 3OH!3 ft. Katy Perry - Starstrukk
Took me a while to like this, but I like the chorus and the video.

26) Lady GaGa - Bad Romance
Her best of 2010 tbh. Catchy and makes you want to sing along to it. Great video too, if a little weird.

27) Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up
Catchy but I didn't really like it that much.

28) Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars
His best of 2010 in my opinion. I was dying for it to come out after hearing it on TV and had to wait ages, and couldn't stop playing it when I got it. My number 4. :)

29) Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Good to sing along to and a nice romantic song.

30) Ellie Goulding - Your Song
No thanks, go away please.

31) Eminem - Not Afraid
Didn't like it to start off with, but to be fair to him it's a good comeback song. Not bad at all.

32) Timbaland ft. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again
Love the tune and the lyrics. The video is a bit strange though.

33) Sidney Samson ft. Wizard Sleeve - Riverside (Let's Go)
Catchy tune but I'd forgotten about this tbh.

34) Jason Derulo - In My Head
Sounds like the sort of song I would sing to someone very close to me. Quite catchy.

35) Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song
The lyrics are quite emotional for me tbh. Catchy song and good video.

36) K'naan - Wavin' Flag
Really didn't like this at all.

37) The Wanted - All Time Low
Awesome debut single, on a par with their second single I think. Very catchy. My number 8. :)

38) Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me
Catchy song and great video. If this had come out earlier in the year it might have been in my top 10.

39) Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
Hated this, not my sort of song.

40) Cheryl Cole - Promise This
Not her best, but still a good song and nice video.

My Top 10:-

1. Usher ft. Will.I.Am - OMG.
2. Iyaz - Replay.
3. Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls.
4. Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars.
5. Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me.
6. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are.
7. Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris - Baby.
8. The Wanted - All Time Low.
9. JLS - One Shot.
10. Jason DeRulo - Ridin' Solo.

1) Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
Would work a thousand times better as the centrepiece of a musical about domestic violence, where its lyrical ambiguity could be placed within the context of a clear moral tale, rather than fall into a grey area where the patriarchal pop machine can swallow it up.
2) Matt Cardle - When We Collide
I haven't heard this! I win! *listens for first time* ...it's like James Morrison after ten weeks with Yvie Burnett. Which, essentially, is what Matt Cardle is. *listens to Biffy original* Oddly, it's not much better...
3) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Amazing)
Amazing? No, it really isn't. The number of chav romances that must have been soundtracked by this, that's amazing.
4) Usher ft. will.i.am - OMG
Not anywhere near as good as the song it samples from, "Boom Boom Pow". When the best song on your new double album is credited as "featuring Pitbull", you're no longer relevant.
5) Owl City - Fireflies
A favourite of mine, undeniably quirky; many seem to hate it, but I love it.
6) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
Again, needs to be in a different context. How about a fragile ballad cover? I do like the performance of this as is though, although her belt voice is an acquired taste. it
7) B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams - Airplanes
I have grown to like this. Though Part II is better.
8 ) Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls
See also "patriarchal pop machine" earlier. Hate it.
9) Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano
I hate that I don't hate this song. Though the songs either side flatter it greatly.
10) Helping Murdoch - Everybody Hurts
I hate that I have to recognise this stealth promotional act for the Conservative Party. Welcome to the Big Society.
11) Tinie Tempah - Pass Out
I went from hating this to loving this before settling on quite liking it.
12) Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (Part II)
Overwrought theatrical ballad, but unlike number 1, it works fine in a pop context.
13) Rihanna - Rude Boy
I want to hate this. I'm not so sure I can. Like a less obviously irritatingly earwormy equivalent to number 9.
14) Cee Lo Green - Forget You
Deserved better than to be known for the swearing. I really like it.
15) Lady GaGa ft. Beyonce - Telephone
Excellent song. Appalling video, pandering to a string of misogynistic stereotypes.
16) Plan B - She Said
I say it's OK.
17) Iyaz - Replay
Again, I want to hate this more than I do, and can't quite get it out of my head.
18) Taio Cruz - Dynamite
Not actually explosive, in my opinion.
19) Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me
Try singing "I Gotta Feeling" over this and then tell me it's not a copycat. Mind you, it uses the most familiar chord sequence in pop, so many others work the same way...
20) Jason Derulo - Ridin' Solo
As much as I can't forgive what he did to "Hide and Seek", this is decent, I must admit.
21) Katy Perry - Firework
Can't forgive this one, nauseatingly stereotypical "inspirational" Christian-pop song in flimsy disguise.
22) Glee Cast - Don't Stop Believin'
I prefer the original, but this is at least well-executed.
23) Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars - Billionaire
I don't know whether to find this hilarious or offensive, but lyrics aside, it's a solid, but unexceptional, rap-pop song.
24) Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
As simple and effective a power ballad as has ever been written?
25) 3OH!3 ft. Katy Perry - Starstrukk
No.
26) Lady GaGa - Bad Romance
I do like this, though I've not heard it in too long. Best of the Monster collection I think, but it's close.
27) Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up
I'm going to be contentious and claim it's not her best single, "Rollerskates" taking that title, but in its own right? Not half bad!
28) Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars
Not sure I've heard it; not entirely sure I want to. *listens in the interest of research* This doesn't quite feel like the sum of its parts, unfortunately.
29) Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Not quite a nightmare. That's as highly as I'll praise this.
30) Ellie Goulding - Your Song
Interesting cover, which sometimes annoys me with its lyrical mix-up, but is thoroughly endearing. I'm trying to read into why the lyrics are in a different order, and am failing...
31) Eminem - Not Afraid
Once again, Eminem's best work was on other peoples' records.
32) Timbaland ft. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again
...then it will be far too soon for me to meet Katy's music again. Enough already!
33) Sidney Samson ft. Wizard Sleeve - Riverside (Let's Go)
Didn't make a splash for me. Let's stop.
34) Jason Derulo - In My Head
Managed to stay out of mine.
35) Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song
Only the second song they've ever written, and it's not as good as the first. What, you can tell the others apart?
36) K'naan - Wavin' Flag
I still don't know which version I prefer, but it changed seamlessly from an earnest ballad to a commercial-shilling party anthem, and I can't quite believe how.
37) The Wanted - All Time Low
Not quite the all time low for pop music some seemed to think it was at the time, but goodness me I know why they thought that. Below average.
38) Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me
Not heard this. *listens in name of research* Oh, I've heard this once. That was probably enough, but second listen makes it sound like it warrants more, weirdly. Not bad.
39) Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
Has grown on me through the year, as has most of "Lights" in honesty. Every song has its flaws, every song is endearing in its own way, and considering her notorious perfectionism, that's the weirdest and best thing about the album.
40) Cheryl Cole - Promise This
Promise me I don't have to listen to Ms Tweedy ever again. Oh, *beep* it. *listens in name of research* The good news is that they've cranked the bpm up, thus meaning it ends sooner. The bad news is that at 3:22, it still goes on for over three minutes too long after the introduction.

Top ten from these 40, in only a vague order: "Fireflies", "Starry Eyed", "Bad Romance", "Telephone", "Don't Stop Believin'" (Journey), "Wavin' Flag", "F You", "Pass Out", "Your Song".

My free-choice, one-song-per-artist top ten, as per Lewis246, and somehow I'm going to have to put these in an order I'll regret seconds after posting:

1. Owl City - Fireflies
2. Take That - The Flood
3. Cee-Lo Green - F You
4. Amy Macdonald - Spark
5. K'naan - Wavin' Flag
6. Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot
7. Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
8. Roll Deep - Good Times
9. B.o.B. feat. Hayley Williams and Eminem - Airplanes, Part II
10. Katy B - Katy On A Mission

I'm sorry KP, I just don't see the similarity between 'I Gotta Feeling' and 'Club Can't Handle Me'. :P

1) Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
Really liked this, but not as much as some people. Surprising considering it didn't make #1 officially but it probably was the song of 2010 anyway, and is still in the top 40 currently, despite 'No Love' flopping.

2) Matt Cardle - When We Collide
I dislike anyone who makes Many Of Horror sound like it was sung by Westlife.

3) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Amazing)
Never clicked with me unfortunately, although a lot of people did become obsessed with it. Grenade is better.

4) Usher ft. will.i.am - OMG
I liked this when it was first released. Then got sick of it straight away.

5) Owl City - Fireflies
Great song. Surprised it did so well considering it was from an unknown band.

6) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
I think this is a brilliant piece of dance-pop. It does seem like it should be sung softly in ballad form however it wouldn't have been the international smash if it was.

7) B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams - Airplanes
Great song. B.o.B is one of the better rappers out there IMO and Hayley Williams adds to the awesomeness.

8) Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls
It's a great track that can be appreciated, unfortunately, along with #3... It never clicked with me.

9) Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano
Love this!

10) Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts
Not loving this quite so much...

11) Tinie Tempah - Pass Out
Brilliant sharp record, and it has stood the test of time... Won't be passing out for a while, this one!

12) Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (Part II)
Beautiful second version... I love this, along with the first version.

13) Rihanna - Rude Boy
Didn't click with me... Might just be that there wasn't much to the lyrics. Not surprised it was a hit however.

14) Cee Lo Green - Forget You
Great!

15) Lady GaGa ft. Beyonce - Telephone
That chorus is great, and the video was groundbreaking. Surprised this wasn't higher up however even with Beyonce, it doesn't sound as big as 'Bad Romance.'

16) Plan B - She Said
Never clicked with me unlike 'Prayin'... But saying that, it is really catchy and I have appreciated it a lot more as of late.

17) Iyaz - Replay
Nice. That's it.

18) Taio Cruz - Dynamite
Got old quickly, while his slower songs just flop completely.

19) Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me
Enjoy this, I don't think it sounds like 'I Gotta Feeling' but I can see why both are seen as similar... because David Guetta produced both.

20) Jason Derulo - Ridin' Solo
Anthem.

21) Katy Perry - Firework
Katy's vocals are really strained, but it's always nice when pop can be serious sometimes.

22) Glee Cast - Don't Stop Believin'
Just oh dear.

23) Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars - Billionaire
Really enjoyed this. Hate it now.

24) Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Hated this, now love it.

25) 3OH!3 ft. Katy Perry - Starstrukk
Great track, 3oh!3 are so different, I wished they were more popular. Double Vision was great. :(

26) Lady GaGa - Bad Romance
One that will be remembered for a very long time!

27) Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up
Great song that made everyone feel great.

28) Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars
A personal favourite of mine.

29) Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
It didn't click with me originally, but now I like it a lot.

30) Ellie Goulding - Your Song
Beautiful cover. Ellie has certainly outdone herself this year!

31) Eminem - Not Afraid
It's alright.

32) Timbaland ft. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again
Used to like this... Now I just find it sickly.

33) Sidney Samson ft. Wizard Sleeve - Riverside (Let's Go)
Horrible track.

34) Jason Derulo - In My Head
One of my highlights, but quite disposable.

35) Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song
I like this one... Probably because I never overplayed it.

36) K'naan - Wavin' Flag
Good... till I tired of the world cup.

37) The Wanted - All Time Low
Below average.

38) Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me
Like it because it's different. Don't like it because it's irritating.

39) Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
Magical.

40) Cheryl Cole - Promise This
It's alright but I can see why loads of people hate it.

I want to laugh at how JLS had a #1 single 'The Club is Alive' that has failed to make the list! Lol!

2009 was one of my favourite years for music, but 2010? Erm...

1) Eminem ft. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
Never really liked this...it's just too unpleasant for my liking. And how the hell are you meant to dance to it?

2) Matt Cardle - When We Collide
Bland X Factor cover number zillion.

3) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Amazing)
Not too bad, but I'd have preferred to see Billionaire here instead.

4) Usher ft. will.i.am - OMG
Awful. Goes on for bloody ages. Will remember it as a defining 2010 song though.

5) Owl City - Fireflies
Never really saw the hype here, it's just too dull for me.

6) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
The more popular she gets, the worse the songs become. I liked her about 2006-7 ish but I can't stand her newer stuff.

7) B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams - Airplanes
Passed me by at the time, but not bad listening back - one of the best so far.

8) Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls
Worst song of the year. Hated it.

9) Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano
At last, one I really like!! THE song of the summer, many many happy memories associated with this :)

10) Helping Haiti - Everybody Hurts
Oh go away.

11) Tinie Tempah - Pass Out
I didn't like it at the time, but love it now - the star of the year. Gotta love those mentions of *beep* and his aunt's house!

12) Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind (Part II)
Nah, too dull. Original's a classic.

13) Rihanna - Rude Boy
GO. AWAY.

14) Cee Lo Green - Forget You
Brilliant track, one of my favourites of the year even in the censored version.

15) Lady GaGa ft. Beyonce - Telephone
Nah, never really got this. Two overrated artists with an overrated song.

16) Plan B - She Said
Favourite song of the year is 'Stay Too Long', but this is brilliant too.

17) Iyaz - Replay
See Tinie Tempah...didn't like it then, love it now! Why was such a summery song released in January?

18) Taio Cruz - Dynamite
I put my hands up in the air so high and destroy every copy of this song. Can he get any worse?

19) Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me
Great summer track, takes me right back to hotter weather.

20) Jason Derulo - Ridin' Solo
Anyone who keeps saying their name at the start of all their songs I don't have time for.

21) Katy Perry - Firework
Better than California Gurls, but still not my type of music at all.

22) Glee Cast - Don't Stop Believin'
Guilty pleasure. I love Glee :D

23) Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars - Billionaire
Amazing song!! In my top 5 of the year!

24) Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
It's getting a bit overplayed now, but at least it's finally become a classic. Now let's hope 'Any Way You Want It' gets the same treatment one day...

25) 3OH!3 ft. Katy Perry - Starstrukk
This was 2010? Feels like forever ago this came out! This I really liked, Katy Perry is really good when she's guest starring on other people's records, just not her own.

26) Lady GaGa - Bad Romance
Impossible to remember a time without this song anymore. One of Gaga's best.

27) Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up
Fantastic summery tune!

28) Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner - Written In The Stars
This is what changed my opinion of Mr Tempah. When I heard this I realised he wasn't just a one-trick pony and capable of releasing brilliant stuff like this.

29) Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Couldn't stand it.

30) Ellie Goulding - Your Song
Yet again, a promising new artist sells out instantly with a bland cover. This happened with Florence & The Machine when she did You Got The Love :(

31) Eminem - Not Afraid
Not as good as his older stuff.

32) Timbaland ft. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again
Brilliant! The best song Katy Perry's ever been part of. Another in my top 5.

33) Sidney Samson ft. Wizard Sleeve - Riverside (Let's Go)
This really got ruined by the vocals. Still great though and brings back huge memories of the early part of the year, it was played EVERYWHERE.

34) Jason Derulo - In My Head
Yawn.

35) Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song
This was a big shock! Every song sounded like this circa 2006, but in 2010 it's a rare breed. Best one Scouting For Girls have ever done.

36) K'naan - Wavin' Flag
The World Cup may have been a bit rubbish, but this was a great track.

37) The Wanted - All Time Low
Oh god, it's Westlife's future replacements. Just no.

38) Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me
Only recently discovered this. Pretty good.

39) Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed
Never got into the Ellie Goulding hype.

40) Cheryl Cole - Promise This
Love how this underperformed. Great opening five seconds and then the rest is completely forgettable.

Some good stuff, and lots of memories attached, but I really preferred 2009's songs. Can't wait to see what 2011 holds!
