To celebrate the arrival of the Music board...and the arrival of Christmas...what's everyone's favourite Christmas song?

I think mine would have to be "Fairytale of New York".

1) "Merry Xmas Everybody" - Slade
2) "Last Christmas" - Wham
3) "A Spaceman Came Travelling" - Chris de Burgh

But in general, I don't like Christmas music.

I have a lot of favourite Christmas songs. My all time favourites are Roy Wood and Wizzard "I wish it could be Christmas Everyday", Slade - "Merry xmas Everybody", Wham - Last Christmas, Band Aid - Do they Know it's Christmas and Roy Wood and the Wombles "Wombling Merry Christmas".

I also like Aled Jones "Walking in the Air" and "Fairytale of New York"

I love Christmas songs. The other week me and my friend did 'Last Christmas' at karaoke. The rest of the pub we thought were mad. I love all the songs mentioned so far.. but three classics you've missed out are:

Elton John - Step Into Christmas
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
and the mighty S Club 7 - Perfect Christmas

Oh I might just have to go get my Christmas albums out now....

Fairytale of New York without a doubt. However, every time I hear it now I think "aww, poor Kirsty MacColl".

Still, I *beep* love Christmas music and have been listening to my home made album since the end of last month. I really tried to fight off the temptation and wait until December 1st but that was never going to happen really.

Hahah, OK, if other people get to post lists then I do too...

Band Aid/Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas? (I normally hate covers but I love the new version...although I only like the first half of each version. The second half is crap.)
Billy Gilman - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
Boney M - Mary's Boy Child
Christina Aguilera - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Dean Martin - Silver Bells
Ella Fitzgerald - Let It Snow
Elton John - Step Into Christmas
Frank Sinatra - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (Don't know who sings it...)
Jackson Five - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
John Lennon and Yoko Ono - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Mariah Carey - O Holy Night
Mariah Carey - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (Mariah Carey is normally *beep*, but she rocks at Christmas)
Melanie Thornton - Coca Cola Christmas Song
Mud - Lonely This Christmas
Muppets - Scrooge (From A Muppet Christmas Carol!! Ohhh I have to watch that now...)
Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song
Ronettes - Sleigh Ride
Smokey Robinson - Jingle Bells
The Darkness - Christmas Time
The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
Whitney Houston - Do You Hear What I Hear?

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!

Argh! You're feeding the commercial side of Christmas by playing Christmas music so early! I think only now is it just about justifiable to start talking / thinking about Christmas...as it's six weeks away... but I do have a bee under my bonnet, as my birthday is so close to Christmas... 12 days before, in fact. :?

Anyway, I do like Christmas music in December at Christmas.

Wizzard - I wish it could be Christmas Everyday
Band Aid - Do They Know It’s Christmas Time (the original version, not the 2004 one)
Fairytale of New York
Stop The Calvalry
Chris Rea - Drving Home For Christmas

and of course...

Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody!!!

There's some pretty good lists here.
The only Christmas song I really can't understand is 'Power of Love' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, there's nothing remotely christmassy about it. It mentions vampires and the like... not very festive in my opinion.

I was 6 years old, it was 1973, Noel Edmonds had just started
presenting the breakfast show on Radio 1, and on Christmas Day
I was given one of my most treasured presents, I think I'd put it
top of my Christmas list, the single of Slade "Merry Christmas"
which was released for the first time that year, and the Christmas
No. 1 to boot! When I was given the black 45 I popped it into the
little record player. Then I probably drive all the grandparents
and other relatives to distraction as I played it over and over,
I think everyone got the message "IT'S CHRRRRISSSSTMASSSSS!!!!!"
as Noddy screeched it again and again! :) There are a lot of
other good Christmas songs, and some really naff ones too,
Christmas seems to bring out extremes,
and not a lot in between. :-D
