Am really looking forward to this, apparently it's the biggest/riskiest thing he's ever attempted.

There's a really good interview with Derren on his website:

I'm intrigued by this as well, It's all being kept very top secret! :suspect: The adverts are promoting the show next friday at 9pm, however the show where he will actually perform the trick (at least as I've been led to believe) is on Wednesday at 10:35pm for 10 minutes, and the main show on Friday is the explanation.

If that's the case, I can only think it's going to be something amazing and ridiculously difficult to work out, to warrant a whole hour's worth of explanation!

I really hope Derren is touring near me next year, and I've seen his last 2 live shows and they were brilliant.

(Wonder if this is riskier than Russian Roulette then...?)

I don't usually watch Derren Brown, but I'll most probably watch/tape that 10 minute thing on Wednesday to see what it's like. If only because of all the hype and those promos surrounding it that.

Well Derren's first event has been confirmed - he's going to try and predict the lottery numbers just ahead of the live draw on BBC1, hence why there's a 10 minute special on Wednesday night at 10:35pm. Quite how he's going to that I don't know. Because unless it's fixed there's no way he'll be able too. So it'll certainly be interesting to see what happens.

Derren has also convinced C4 bosses to screen this stunt across all their channels (More 4, E4, Film 4) at the same time as he is confident this will work.

This also briefly explains what Derren is going to do in the upcoming weeks, including next week trying to make people at home unable to move - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPbkjtzXn5M

I wonder if he has got a ticket for himself if he is that confident? It certainly is a career breaker...and by Friday I can see a broken career. (Or him going to jail and the lottery going bust.)

Ok he has been banned from buying a ticket from C4 as he says on his twitter... 'C4 banning me from buying ticket. Apparently people may claim foul play if I win and say I've lessened their winnings. Rubbish. Will fight.'

These numbers are currently being projected on major UK landmarks (so someone go for a drive round and share the numbers and we can all share the profits!) So any thoughts of him using a time delay should be rubbished... urm I dont know how this is possible unless the lottery is rigged.

There is a £2.4 million jackpot on Wednesday night so Derren could become an even richer man... and then a few million people might win on Saturday night....

I was just looking at the TV guide.... Derrens programme goes from 10.35 to 10.45 and so does the lottery... so they should simulcast the draw on Derrens show. We get to see Derren see Derren performing one of the worlds greatest magic tricks or his career going up in smoke. No pressure.

Apparently at 9:09pm tonight on C4 something will be happening relating to this? I presume it's some kind of live advert/promo. Maybe Derren will predict one of the numbers then.

I don't think he'll be able to predict the numbers! If he is, then why hasn't he won the lottery by now? I think this is some sort of stunt, and actually he won't predict them correctly. Him getting it wrong could be part of the trick. :?

Bear in mind he is an illusionist not a magician or psychic...

He did it and got 6 right! He said that he couldn't announce any numbers before the BBC did, yet his pre-chosen numbers were projected on to buildings? I don't quite understand that bit. My initial thought was that the balls had been tampered with somehow in-between the numbers being called and him revealing them... but surely it wouldn't be as simple as that.

Well my initial thought was that those balls had electronic paper on them and were connected to a computer, and someone updated the balls as the draw was being called.

I had a look at what people are saying on DigitalSpy, and amongst dozens of "He switched the balls when we weren't looking" (which is ridiculous as they were in shot all the time), there was this one:

Quote:
GOT IT.

He stood holding his hand next to his mouth for AGES. Here's what happened, he freeze framed it in that spot - lets say he filmed himself for 5 seconds in that position. This was played over and over. Meanwhile, he ran round, wrote the numbers on the balls and came back into the same position and the live stream was played again.

And the TV was positioned so it could be played live over the 'replayed' film..

I think it has to be something like that... there was something dodgy going on with the "live feed". He was using a modern TV and the sound came on before the picture, and it faded out when he turned it off at the end. That only happened with the old CRT monitor type TVs; it doesn't happen with the LCD / plasma ones these days!

:? :?

Well I don't know how it did it exactly, but he did. Obviously there's some kind of illusion, but what?

I too have just been looking over at DigitalSpy to see what they were saying. Though clearly some people weren't paying much attention to the show.

Why did Derren not reveal his balls first? Ok he said legally that the BBC must announce them first or something, but he wasn't announcing the actual numbers just his prediction.

Guess i'll have to watch on Friday now to see how he, and we, can do it.

I thought that too. Well he says it took him a year to work this one out, so if he's telling the truth, then it must be more than simple camera trickery or electronic paper...

Is Friday's show live?

I read somewhere earlier in the week (not sure where now) that it's a mix of live & pre-recorded segments.

Would Derren have really done this if he was going to get it wrong though. Doubt it, as there wouldn't be much point of an explanation show if he had got it all wrong. Derren (somehow) set this up and it has got loads of people speculating and no doubt tuning in on Friday night.

I'm sure it's a simple enough explanation, but Derren said that you could do this yourself once he reveals all. But do what exactly? Be able to predict the lottery numbers at home - that's easy. Or be able to predict the correct lottery numbers.

Ah, but if his prediction was correct (which it was), he would be perceived to be announcing the results before the BBC. It's totally understandable that Camelot wouldn't allow him to reveal numbers beforehand that turned out to be the actual result because that could potentially land them in a lot of trouble. (Although he wasn't revealing them beforehand really of course, but what he said about it was correct)

I'm not totally sure how he did this - I think the theory about the freeze-frame is probably the closest, I would have to look at it again. Buying into that, he would've made the switch during the 'pre-recorded bit' and then written the numbers on the board when it was back live. Originally, I thought it was some sleight of hand when he turned the stand around, but I don't think that's the case.

Cleverly done as usual, and it'll have us all guessing until friday night...
