I wonder if DoND will get the 3D treatment? Will Noel look different through 3D glasses during this special week?

Channel 4 announces 3D programming week

Channel 4 has announced a special week of 3D programming to celebrate 3D footage.

This autumn, viewers will be invited to don 3D glasses to watch the programmes - broadcast in ColorCode 3D - which include previously unseen footage of the Queen during her Coronation year.

The two hour-long episodes, titled The Queen In 3D, tell the story of two young men - director Bob Angell and cameraman Arthur Wooster, now in their 80s - who filmed a 3D colour newsreel they named Royal Review.

Their footage covers the Queen at the events she attended in the lead-up to and after the Coronation in 1953, including her journey to the Coronation itself. It also includes 3D footage of the Queen at the Epsom Derby and a trip on the Royal Barge on the Thames.

The special week will also see the transmission of Derren Brown's 3D Magic Spectacular, The Greatest Ever 3D Moments and several 3D movies.

Channel 4 said that the broadcasts will look almost like an ordinary image when viewed without glasses. However, the image is transformed when the viewer puts on ColorCodeViewer 3D glasses, which are equipped with special amber and blue filters.

I don't have easy access to a Sainsbury's either. There's a small Tesco on the way into town, and 2 large Tescos and another small one in town. There was a Sainsbury's in town but it closed down, so the nearest one is on the outskirts, and I can't be bothered to go there to get the 3D glasses...

I assume any 3D glasses would work (isn't it just a piece of transparent red plastic for one lens, and green for the other?). They used to give them away quite often with cereal boxes and stuff (complete with 3D books!), and I had a pair at one time, but I think I chucked them out ages ago. :(

I'm looking forward to this actually! I have a pair of 3D glasses with the red and blue lens, I assume they're pretty much similar to the ones they're giving away in Sainsbury's and the correct ones to use?

Not that I think it will work on me anyway because I have funny eyes and those 3D books never worked on me when I was a kid. But it's worth a try.

The red and blue ones will not work, 'The Banker'. I tried myself as I have two plastic sets from my astronomy 3D kit.

I tried them earlier when the Derren Brown trailer came on, but nothing happens. (Apart from making you feel as if you've been on the lash!)

I asked my 19 year old Niece who works at Sainsburys if she could pick me up a couple of pairs last Friday evening but she said that there were none in stock. Can't seem to get them for love or money. (Even if free!)

Channel 4 should have made them available in a wider scope as older red/blue or red/green lenses will not work. I think amber and white glasses or something like that is what is supposed to be used. Should have made them free in newspapers or more shop outlets. Ohterwise I'll just have to tape these 3d shows on video and watch at a later date. :(

Hmmm. Now I wonder if the sweet wrappings from Quality Street or Roses might do the trick?? Just a hypothetical thought.

Phil.
