Terry Wogan will be stepping down as presenter of the flagship breakfast show on Radio 2 although he will still be involved with presenting with Radio 2 on a more part time basis:

http://entertainment.aol.co.uk/entertainment-news/sir-terry-hands-over-slot-to/article/20090907041746082202515?icid=main|main|dl2|link5|http%3A%2F%2Fentertainment.aol.co.uk%2Fentertainment-news%2Fsir-terry-hands-over-slot-to%2Farticle%2F20090907041746082202515

This begs the question who will take over from Chris Evans in the drivetime slot? Let's not forget that Noel stood in to present that show for a couple of months in 2003. Could he step in again on a more permanent basis?

Not sure...all I know is Chris Moyles is about to break the record for the longest-running breakfast radio show...

I hope Chris Evans does both shows... thats only 5 hours work a day. (Also Steve Wright works 3 hours a day and is having every other week off at the moment! What a job...)

He'll have to go 11 years to exceed Wogans 16 years in the morning...

It's a shame Wogan's leaving but at least he's not been made to leave like some other Radio 2 presenters have been. I like Wogan infinitely more than Evans though! I've not liked Evans a great deal, although I can tolerate him. He covers quite interesting stuff in the drivetime slot, whereas Wogan relied on his listeners making contributions to the show (and it worked surprisingly well!).

So what is Evans going to do in the morning slot? I assume he'll have regular features like he does on his drivetime show, but I think his morning show will be mostly full of nothing really. I think he's also too loud for a morning show, and a massive change from Wogan (probably an unwelcome change to most people).

As for the drivetime slot, I did hear Simon Mayo was a likely candidate for it (I don't know much about him though). Noel Edmonds would be a great replacement, but his commitment to DoND means it's unlikely; plus the reason he hasn't done more radio work is that he wanted to stay in the West Country, and didn't want to move nearer London where BBC Radio is predominantly based.

There are also rumours of Paul O'Grady taking over, now that his Channel 4 show appears to be coming to an end. I say they should bring back Johnnie Walker - him and "Sally Traffic" were a good duo; like a pair of love birds. :P

The article rico linked to explains the record...

Quote:
Meanwhile Chris Moyles will become the longest-serving breakfast DJ on BBC Radio 1, overtaking the record set by Tony Blackburn more than 30 years ago.

The 35-year-old began the flagship radio role on January 5 2004 and has now clocked up 2,073 days in the job.

Blackburn was in post as Breakfast DJ from September 30 1967 to June 1 1973, serving a total of 2,072 days.

Moyles' team is celebrating the milestone with a tour of Britain, kicking off with the show airing live from Plymouth.

Seems a bit lame really that the longest Radio 1 has held down a breakfast DJ for is just under 6 years, whereas Radio 2 has held on to Wogan as a breakfast DJ for a continuous stretch of over 16 years!

Well Radio 1 DJs do have a habit of coming over to Radio 2... Also technically Wogan has had a breakfast show for 29 years and Moyles is celebrating having a job for 6 years...

I hope Evans keeps to his Drvietime style in the morning and takes a few of his team with him like Johnny Saunders and Rebbecca Pike as they do have a good thing going there. I dont know who I want to replace Evans but as long as it isnt Mayo (very radio 5...) Noel could be interesting... I dont think I've ever listened to his shows but I'd put my money on an ex-Radio 1 presenter... Zoe Ball?

I re-read my post and realised I left that rather important "NOT" out of the sentence. :P

It's been announced that Simon Mayo will indeed replace Chris Evans on Radio 2 drivetime, when he moves to Wogan's slot next year...

Mayo's stand in for Evans over the past few months have been pretty dull... I hope he makes the show a bit more of his own.

I will miss Simon Mayo on Radio 5 live which I listen to most of the time :D

He is keeping his spot with Dr Mark Kermode on Friday afternoon so I will have to re-tune

Chris Evans has just confirmed on the Paul O'Grady Show that his first Radio 2 breakfast show will be on Monday 11th January 2010.

I expect Terry Wogan will probably finish a few weeks earlier, and they'll have a 'cover' in the intervening period. I doubt that Terry will finish on Friday and Chris will start straight away on the Monday!

I'm pretty sure they both finish the week before Christmas and have cover inbetween.
