It's fantastic. I knew the Centour Question. It really annoys me when you know the answer yet they put ALL of their chips down

Yup, it's got great shout-at-the-telly moments, a well-executed risk/reward element (except I'm not convinced it'll quite work once the jackpot gets huge - maybe £10k or 5% of the jackpot, and double that next time, would work better?) and is superbly hosted. Just about perfect.

The weird thing is I knew about Centaur's when they asked on In It To Win It "A Centaur is half man and half what?" about 20 minutes before the question was asked on ITV?

Maud, a Centaur is half man, half horse. I believe some live in the Birmingham area. ;)

I thought Duel was great as well- definitely be watching next week. It even has a hint of DOND when, after the 2nd win, the player has to decide whether to take the cash or go on in the hope of winning the jackpot- which could be HUGE by the the time somebody does win it. Also some of the questions were really quite tricky.

Well hosted by Nick Hancock- I can't believe he went off to be a mortgage advisor!!??

Nick Hancock is an absolute legend - I really liked his presenting style on Win My Wage - "Oh my word!". I haven't been able to see Duel unfortunately and I was unable to record it last night. :( Does anyone know if it'll be repeated? I do have ITV2+1 thingy, so I could watch it on that... but it's not on ITV's catch-up thing yet... I hope they put it on.

But from the video I've seen of Nick Hancock explaining the rules on the ITV site, it looks like I could be hooked already! Does anyone also know how long this series is lasting for? If the format is good enough, I wonder if this could eventually be put in Goldenballs' 5pm slot on weekdays? Or even: 3:30 Children's programmes, 4:10 Duel, 5:00 Golden Balls and 5:30 The Royal Today...

People on Bothers bar say that game shows don't seem to be put on the catch up thing but it should be on a certain 'tv catch up' site...

I think I read it's going to last for 12 episodes so that way into spring, surely it'll get extended as well.

Yes david3383... but what about regional varieties... :ponder:

That means the last episode should be on 29th March... but it'll probably be back in September if it's a success I reckon.

And as for ITV regions Tom - they should bring back just one for the Shropshire region and the times would be 4pm - 6pm: Farming Today. :P

Ooh, I have just found this:

Duel
Saturday 26 January 4:35pm ITV2

I'm assuming that'll be the repeat of episode 1...

As stated, the show is set to run for twelve weeks. Originally it was set for eight but ITV decided to extend the run by another four shows. However, according to last nights ratings. In It to Win It slaughtered them.

I watched this last night out of interest after seeing the ads not really knowing what the concept of the show was and I have to say I really liked it.

It's an interesting format that works well. I like the way you can use your 10 chips to answer the questions and also when someone presses their accelerator you see the other contestant quickly shove their chips in all the answers :D

The rolling jackpot is good as well, so when someone does finally get to their 4th duel it could be massive (compared to the £100,000 starting point).

Hopefully the show will take off and it could be a case that the more people hear about the show the more will tune in.

Thanks Travis!

I have now watched it in full and it's a great show and fits perfectly into its time slot, unlike Golden Balls (and even DOND to a certain extent). There are many twists and turns that I like in the show, including the Accelerator thing, as well as the fact that they can "deal" at £10,000, win a percentage of the top prize or play on to get the jackpot.

What happens if a player wins the third duel? Do they get offered £10,000 or 10% again, or is it £20,000 or 20% or something? Quite clearly, as the series goes on and the jackpot grows, then it's going to become more worthwhile to get a percentage chip.

Can't wait until next week's show!

It's £20k/20%. I'd rather that the decisions were £10k/5% and £20k/10%, but then again I'm not sure.

Duel, episode 2
Tonight, 9pm, ITV1

Another good episode yesterday. However, as the jackpot gets bigger, I'm faily sure most people will "deal" if they get the percentage chip after the second duel. Likewise, if they get the money chip, they're more likely to play on unless they have a very targetist-type attitude. It'd be nice to see someone turn down the money on offer and then "deal" for a percentage after a few duels.

What I also find fascinating is how the duration of each duel could be virtually anything... as if you had two brainboxes who knew all the answers and never wasted any chips and never got their questions wrong, the duel could go on for ages - a bit like a tiebreaker in a tennis match!

I definitely think the time structure is very good too as the show doesn't drag at all, unlike shows like Golden Balls which could be made siginifcantly shorter time-wise.

The reason this works for time is, very simply, the freeform length of each Duel and the straddling games. DoND and Goldenballs both fall down there, though in DoND's case the fact the game has variable length as well causes a different set of issues...

Yes, people's decisions soon are going to be dictated entirely by the chip chosen. I know mine would be.

It'll be good to see someone go for a third Duel, but it's certainly going to happen so I'm not going to get angry that it's not happened yet.

I watched last night's episode and it was, quite simply, amazing. It is almost the perfect gameshow formula- interesting gameplay (but not overly complicated), fantastic NEUTRAL host, psychological elements, skill elements, fresh contestants and a perfect time-scale. My god, it's March 2006 DoND with a quiz thrown in!

Something that I've been wondering though is, when after 2 duels the player gets either £10,000 or 10% of the rolling jackpot and, after three, they get £20,000 or 20% of the jackpot- well, we've reached a stage where getting the 10% of the jackpot is more than the 50/50 chance of getting £20,000 after 3 duels anyway! So, I think if anyone is going to go for a 3rd duel, it'll only be someone who hits £10,000 rather than the 10% chip now.

And it'll be very interesting to see if anyone who gets the 20% chip after a 3rd duel (which looks like it could exceed £50,000 very soon already) would be willing to gamble as, unlike DoND, there is no fallback.

Now I know why I love this show already- so many questions and dilemmas- best gameshow in years.

Yep, agree with most of the comments, it was another great show last night, particularly the Duel with the two men near the end, as there was a lot of psychological gameplay going on. Pity the ratings don't reflect the widespread praise on here - only 2.64 million according to the overnights. I'm fearful ITV might decide to axe it before the end of the run, but I hope not, because there are so many good elements to it - a neutral host, a challenging quiz at times, psychological elements, and ultimately the greed and gambling element to chase the huge jackpot.

We need to start a campaign to save Duel, I can't understand why people aren't watching it, IITWI is so much more of a lightweight quiz with seemingly the most unintelligent people on the planet, yet last week got over twice as many viewers! :?
